  • Double Horse 9101 Won't take off!

So first off I would like to appoligise if this is int he wrong place! but I didnt know where to put it.. but considering I am a beginner I kinda fit in here.

    Hello,

I have had my double horse 9101 for over a year now and flew it once and it went great with some minor crashes. But nothing major. I went to fly it again today after charging the 7.2 battery full. I fired the throttle right up and no ascend at all! but instead it just spun around. By the looks off it the top was spinning faster than the bottom! I read a few articles and say they said to check the gears were matching. I checked and they were all matching fun etc. I went to spin the gear manually to see if it would work and it just spun but the rotors never? So I really do not know what the problem is?

    Any help would be amazing!

    Thanks Aidan.

It sounds like you are talking about a co-axial heli, (two sets of blades that should rotate in the opposite direction to each other).

From your description either the motor pinion gear is not meshing with the shaft gear because it is out of position, or the teeth on one of the gears have been stripped, causing the pinion to just spin and spin....

The other option is that the shaft that drives one of the sets of blades is damaged/broken, so the gears will turn the bottom of the shaft, but not the top where the blades are.

Just had another quick look and all the gears are together fine, teeth not worn out.. there spinning fine.. bit it's like its not connected to the bottom rotors! cause the gears are spinning smooth but the rotors are just not moving at all! Hope this helps!

Try holding the gears and see if the lower set of blades spin with pressure from your finger...if they do, you may need to replace the lower rotor assembly. This happened to me on a co-ax heli...the blades shouldnt move when you try to spin them whislt holding the gears. I fixed it by replacing main shaft, inner and outer, and lower rotor assembly. Hope that makes sense...

I'll do that in 10. if I have to replace the lower rotor assembly will that be pricey?

It wasn't for my micro twister pro, I cant speak for your heli but it shouldnt cost much, and it is quite easy to do the repair...well it was on mine. Hope it works out for you.

It depends if you can get parts for it I guess. A lot of these coaxials are not that well supported for parts.

Im quite sure now that it is the connection from the gears to the rotor blade. Cause I just looked at my helo tc which is a coaxial and when I turn the bottom rotor blades the gears spin.. etc. I tryed this on my double horse 9101 and the gears didn't move at all? I think I might take it apart?

It sounds like the first issue i posted about...can you spin the bottom (or top) rotors with your finger whilst holding both gears with your other hand? If yes, then it is, and, with parts is an easy fix. Good luck with it.

Yeh, so what part would I be needing to replace? (top blades spin fine (moving the top gear)) (when I spin the bottom rotor, no gears move) and if I hold the bottom gear and try spint he rotor it spins fine but when I do with the top one there is definetly some friction kinda stopping it. So the connection from the bottom gear to the rotor is broke/loose whatver? What would need replaced and how would you do this?

In the case of my micro twister the plastic rotor hub on the lower blades had just worn itself loose, you need to get a replacement, and remove top rotor assembly, then pull the lower assembly off the shaft. Then just hold the gears so they dont move down and push the new rotor on the shaft. Put top assembly back on and Robert's your fathers brother ;-)
