  • Anyone within 50 miles of me to help please?

Just wondering if there is anyone close-ish to me that could help me understand some things? I've got a backround in mechanics and I can read pretty well, but there is only so much you can learn on your own.

I would really appreciate it if someone was around to talk me through a few things. (adjusting pitch on blades/tail rotor setup/blade tracking etc)

    Here's hoping, cheers in advance

If you set the links to the lengths given in the manual you will get close enough to fly ok so long as blades are balanced and nothing is damaged. Links need to be set to about 0.1mm. I expect you have a vernier. The tail setup is not critical. About 5 degrees to the right is close. For heading hold gyros the setup is not critical. The heli needs to lean to the right by about 5 degrees to hover. There are many vids that go into much more detail. As a beginner you do not need lots of negative collective as it will only result in landing difficulty as the tendency is to reduce throttle lever to zero when things go wrong.

          Thanks folks.
One thing I am seeing right off is there is far more +pitch than -pitch (not gonna be a prob for a noob) but at full stick I hear the servo whining, and I'm not sure what to do about it tbh. The other thing I'm unsure of is the tail rotor setup, there is again, more travel one way over the other and it seems a little sticky to recentre itself(something that will ease with use?)

Nobby, I'm only in Hay...would it be possible to meet up one of these days? Perhaps a day when you're flying you could take 5 minutes to look things over for me? Will see you right for your troubles ;-)

Yeah no probs....I'm away in Lancashire this weekend but will be around next week and the weekend. I'll PM you my number and we can arrange something. Will need to know what model and transmitter etc. before we meet so I can be forewarned and forearmed

Thank you very much, hugely appreciate that. Heli is a bit leftfield, it's a Twister CPX with the Twister 2.4 comp TX. Here's a link to the heli and a link to the pdf for the TX manual

Just had a quick look at the manual, should be able to get it tweaked so it's not binding (if that's what it's doing) by setting endpoints and looking to see if any sub trim's been set etc....

It's a very good idea to get someone to check over your first heli. There is a lot to get wrong. If you have more positive pitch than negative that could be either the pitch curve you are using or the setup. If you have a straight line for pitch and set zero pitch half way you should get equal both ways. If you the select a normal pitch curve you should get the values you want. You then have to decide where you want the pitch lever for hovering.

Its on page 9 of 20 in the manual "SW-TYP" is the heading...have a play if you know what you're doing...don't mess it up too much if you don't!! Before you play with the settings copy the model to another model memory so if you do mess it up you can revert back to the original settings...we'll have a look on Thurs

Nice one It's not a massive hall, but for us (mostly micros) it's fine...and there's enough room for me to learn on the cpx
