  • Lama v4

Cant belive i feel intimidated by this helo, got it yesterday, sat happily last night reading instructions, charging battery and playing with it, thing is, i never even got it off the ground, i sat there spinning the blades up, but couldnt get the guts to give it enough power to lift off, a few times it kept tilting to the right and falling over before it was about to take off, or look like it was.

Kinda funny, or maybe a bit stupid, but i enjoyed it, a bit scared to break it i think, any tips?

Question, anyone know what size allen key it needs to remove the blades and replace them, i see one is already cracked.

Power up and away from the floor (to about 2 foot up) pretty quickly to get out of ground effect, which will do nasty things to your heli

They are pretty stable beasts, so enjoy!

      Hi Ghod
i have a lama 4 i use to play around in the front room
i find it easy just to take of then sort out trims and pots
or you could fit training gear and it will slide around rather than tip over
the allen key for the blade grips are 1.5 mm

Did you guys have to do any extra set up out of the box? when i put just under half throttle on it starts to move to the right (tail left) and backwards u could leave it on half throttle and it would keep crawling along the floor going in a circle, uif you give it enough power to get up it just gos nuts across the room

Mine was close but i still had to adjust the proportion pot to keep the tail still
this is from someone Else post it will help you set the v4 up

            to start hover the heli.
looking from the tail of the heli
if it drifts sideways.and the trim is not enough to control it. centre the trim....pop off the ball link on the left servo arm. if the heli is drifting right..shorten the rod(screw the loop on further). half a turn and retry hovering if its drifting left lengthen it.
if the heli is drifting forward centre the trim pop off the right hand ball link and shorten the rod...backwards lengthen it.... remember half a turn at a time. be patient and you will get it hovering steady with no trim needed at all.

now the tail. hover the heli it should now be in a nice steady hover if the tail drifts right with no input.. land the heli turn the proportion pot anti clockwise very slightly.left drift turn clockwise..then disconnect the battery..reconnect and re-hover. small adjustments be patient. once the tail doesn't drift...apply input to the rudder and release if the heli continues to turn slightly then slowly settles add gain. if it is reluctant to turn and wags reduce gain.( you can do this without disconnecting each time)

            hopefully all that helps

I had to read the manual to find out what you meant above, but when you take the case off and tighten that screw to shorten or make it longer, do you put it back together again then try it? can u fly it without the plastic case?

sorry total newbie to it all

Think im almost getting there, althou the heli is still kinda way out of control, before giving it enough throttle to take off its still going backwards or left or right, is it even possible to get it set right so that u give it throttle and it gos straight up, or is there always some kind of control/counter movement needed?

There will almost certainly always be some sort of counter control input needed.

All helis will need constant counter inputs all the time. The coaxial helis like yours need much less than most but still need them.

This is what is teaching you to fly bigger more advanced heli's

Dont worry it becomes instinct after a while and you will be able to hover on the spot!

I have a Lama V3 and it taught me loads i now fly a 400 size Shogun thats highly modified.

                  Good luck

                    Yes
unless your talking about the canopy see below

i left the canopy off to do mine (the front section)
and left the tail on as the wire antenna is in it
just keep at it and you will get there
i got mine to hover with very little stick moment but it did take a few battery's worth

Thanks guys, i really am starting to see a diffrence in it now, before when i throttled, it went way left and back, its much steadyer now, not quite right but ten times better after adjusting the servo arms, it shakes a lot when it spins up slowly but as it gets faster steadys itself, im really happy with it to be honest, just going to have to figure it out as i go along

Rab yeh i left the front canopy off it when adjusting the arms, but wasnt sure if that would make it lighter or effect the movement once i put it back on.

Thanks for the help, im gonna keep at it.

Really? that would be awesome, i was thinking earlyer that i would love to have someone who knows what they are doing, check if the helo is set up right, or tell me straight its just because i am tottally new to it all.

When is the next time you guys are going to meet up? and is it ok that i only have a little lama and not a big scary nitro helo

Yeh that would be great, i will wait till chirstmas is out of the way, but very intrested, i see on the website it says the most popular model is a raptor 50 v2, that would be awesome to move on to that once i have learned a little more.

Will i just give you a little PM on here to arrange a date to drop by?
