  • Brand New Heli Flyer - Advice please

so ive finally picked up my first R/C helicopter at a Car Boot sale

having never flown Helicopters outside of online games ( not flight sims ) i thought i would pick up some Advice before flying

this is what i picked up : charger is missing, so before i can fly ill need to purchase one

ive throttled it up so that its almost in the air.. but im worried about taking off till i can get a charger and get outside

how do you 'trim' this kind of helicopter ?

are they hard to fly ?

is there any local clubs in southern staffordshire ( Lichfield / Tamworth )

do i need any special insurance to fly this ?

any other bits of advice would be very usefull

First, you should buy a simulator, like phoenix flight sim. That helicopter you've got there is fairly easy to fly. It´s a coaxial helicopter so it´s not that fast. Therefore I recommend you flying that helicopter indoors in a sports hall or something. If the wind outside is faster than the speed of the helicopter, you can't control it. No insurance is needed for this type of flying.
I can't refer to any local clubs because i live in Sweden lol
My final advice: If you buy something, buy expensive directly, or you will regret you bought so much shit
    Good luck with the hobby!

It all depends how much you want to get into the hobby.

If you buy Phoenix, its going to cost. FMS is free but you will need a cable and its not that great.

If you just want a bit of garden fun then just give flying it a go. You might well break it but it will be cheaper to repair than buying Phoenix.

If you do want to get into the hobby then get Phoenix

      Just my 2p

Just give it a go and see how you get on with it

I agree with Mark - if you do decide to get into the hobby the advice that most people will agree on is getting a simulator like Phoenix

        good luck and enjoy

well i recived a phone call this morning from the seller of the heli...stating he had a few extra bits that he had found when sorting his stuff...
these include a 12 V power supply that plugs either directly to the charger OR to a little box which i assume is a special charger for the batteries..
another curious thing he had was a USB to 3.5mm mono jack which he assured me belonged to the charger...and sure enough i have a socket on the rear of the controller for it...what is it for ?

oh and he had a new set of blades for me which is VERY welcome as when i tried to fly before...she doesnt fly straight at all...she seems to have a mind of her own and flys in a random direction ( even flew into me with enough force to give me a small cut on my arm, while shattering a blade )
