I am not against hh in anyway shape or form but hh is like drving an automatic car. ie something is doing the majority of the work for you.
3d without HH...badly you say?? I wouldn't say that...look at the likes or BobJ and Curtis. HH has made it easier which in my mind says anyone that can only do it with HH will never be as good as BobJ and Curtis.
As for flicking into normal and scaring yourself, try setting the tail up mechanically first and when you flick in and out of normal and HH you will not notice. I have seen this so many times.
People are just expecting the 'gadgets' to just work. A good mechanical setup will make a massive differance.
As I said I am not against HH what I am saying is a good pilot does not rely on it.

HOLY SHIT
Wow, thanks everyone for there impute, I've just managed to get back to the PC, (Spine always plays up this time of year lol).
My head is buzzing with all the info, I'm going to read all the great replies tomorrow morning over a few cups of tea, hopefully the brain cell will be kicked started after a few cups of the brown stuff.
I want to just say thanks so much everyone, I know each and every member has different views, and how boring it would be if we didn't, and I value everyones POF.
I was looking at the Shuttle in this months RCME Mag plus a Raptor V2 all in kit, but right now there just a tad out of my price range, please don't get me wrong by this, but were saving for a conservatory and spa bath, this is for my spine condition and not an over indulgence for the sheer hell of it, so a moderately price (something sexier to fly) then the BCX2 would be a luxury until the middle of next year when I dearly want to build a rex 500 system, and knowing I have you guys here as back up is wonderful peace of mind.
But as I say I'm going to read all the posts two or three times over so I can absorb the great info you all have kindly offered.
I'm quite over whelmed by how many have.
Many, many thanks, anyway till tomorrow.

Crikey I've read the posts three times over now and a lot has sunk in, and everyone had different but equally correct ideas whats best to start off with.
As Pip said I don't really want to put together a ££££ plus heli for only to crash the crap out of it during the learning stage, equally if I practice on the Phoenix and don't have anything to use other than the BCX2 until the middle of next year I know the bug will leave me, so after reading up on advice here and what I've researched in my limited capability on the subject, so far I think with the Blade 400 with the dig servos, full bearing machining, it's size thats around the Trex 450 scale plus the DXi6 controller will be my first real heli trainer.
From what I've picked up taming down the control surfaces so it doesn't launch 50ft per second or crash dive as soon you use the cyclic in any direction, plus the use of training gear with someone with you to help iron out easy mistakes is possibly the best step from Contras I can make right now.
Of course hours of sim practice with the DXi6 and learning all the controls using the PC I think will help gain knowledge, as I really need the D-6 to use on the PC, well once you've brought it the extra money involved it makes sense to go for the 400, also, and this is the big kid in me, having the heli sit on the table knowing I'm gaining the experience to eventually take her up with guidance, really floats my boat in such cases.
As I say I'm just a bloody kid.
The Trex 500 when I start building her towards the middle of next year, hopefully sooner I hope will be my major project, it's a little daunting, but I've been told it's quite easy to do so long as you do one bag of bits at a time and as it's built in stages it take the complex nature of it's design and breaks it up so a complete novice can in time finally get there.
As for all the flight curve adjustments there still a mystery to me right now, but I'm dead excited knowing the route I'll be taking after Xmas.
Also buying a cheap heli allows me to buy spares and loads of batts, Plus in this months RCM&E mag one reviewer done a review on the Twister CP Cheapo RTF, and even though I agree with you guys, like he said with supervision and taming the controls you can use it as a trainer, so hopefully buying a more expensive RTF plus with you guys to help me and with Pip's very kind offer to check it out for me and give a hand it'll put me in good stead for bigger and better things
I wish I could thank each and everyone individually as everyone has given me so much time and thought in there advise, but I wont forget this and what you guys have done, but please understand my choice right now, and having a half decent heli to learn on is better than none at all, but all being equal I'd rather break a few things and repair the Blade then I would financially and the heart break of slam dunking the T-500 in a silly learning fault exercises.
PJ your quite correct mate this place rocks and beats the other forums hands down.
Young Rob really opened up a beast within me when he demonstrated his quite exquisite T-600, the build, design, not to mention the wonderful sound of those rotas speeding up was fantastic, I can't really afford the 600 route but the 500 seems in good compromise in size and cost.
Please if anyone has anything more to add please do so, I'm sponging up all the advise I can right now, Rob while he was at my house said it sounds like a decent machine to learn on being the B-400 so long as the correct measures are taken and I don't run before I can walk.
On a different note I think I'm killing off the Li-Po's with the BCX2, Christ have they had a hammering since owning the heli, and she has at least four flights a day, it's great fun, but I crave something that bit better now, as before I wasn't sure if I'd take the hobby on further than this little heli.
Oh well another skint, (but happy) year ahead for me.

Cambs Flyer
I'm in and around your neck of the woods and am happy to visit and help. I work in Peterborough and live South East of Cambridge, so passing through Chatteris on my way home from the office is easy.
WarboysAstro doesn't (or didn't!) live far from you and I visited him once and sorted out his 601 gyro setup problem on his TRex 600.
Personaly, I only fly IC helis, so am not really up-to-speed with lipos and speed controllers, but all the CCPM stuff, servo and gyro setup is still the same, and I can test-fly the model and get you started on a training plan if you like.

What is it with heli flyers over plank flyers
,Heli guys are so aproachable and helpful as far as ive seen and ive only met one up till now up where i live in the blood and the first thing he said was here is my tel no and invited me to fly with him
. Plank flyers on the other hand 50 % of them just hate the word heli and if they know your into both up here they find it hard to make time for you far less offer help .

I fly both, and will happily help you with both.
I tend to fly more helis than planes in the winter becasue our flying strip becomes very clumpy with worm casts which makes it less inviting for planes, but once the spring comes, and the strip has its first cut, then out come the planes in force, along with a few helis as well.

Im the same got a Pits special 90 size , 2.4 m seagul thermal glider and a black horse low wing 45 size in my collection on top of the helis but plank flyers at my site are not very accomadating for heli flyers and us heli addicts are thin on the ground up here . Shame realy cos this is the only support ive got for any probs .It would be nice to have a few fellow comrads on the same wave length up here.REGARDS JAMIE

Thank you Manager that would be marvelous, Pip has also offered but I'd never turn down any kind offering of help to make sure the Blade 400 is all ready and correct.
Rob lived about three miles from me as the crow flys, and it was him and that 600 that really set me off, I remember looking at my BCX2 afterwards and thought how pathetic it looks by comparison. lol

Am I right in thinking where you can tame the flight surfaces by changing the servo link arms to a different hole, this can be done via the TX when you have the LCD screen with the menus for all sort of adjustments and such.
Sorry to sound dense, but I don't know anything apart from what I've flown so far.

Yes, you can alter the flying characteristics from the Tx, and mechanically on the heli, but you need to fly it first to see if you like it, and if you don't then is it too sensitive, or not enough?
Get yourself setup as best you can and then drop me a PM and we'll sort something out when you've got a list of questions.

Thanks for that mate, I'm sure between everyone here Pip and yourself I'll be a real rotahead enjoying it to the full.
As I say I'll pay for anyones expense, as hopefully I can meet up with you guy's for a few lessons, I just hope I'm not stepping over the mark here with everyones generosity.
I hopefully want to contain crash damage to a minim by taking very small steps using the advise on offer and building up flight experience so i know what can be done safely.
Just doing what Rob done getting her airborne doing some careful maneuverer's and landing her will be enough for me, (and who could blame him with that babe in the air) I tell you he had a massive audience, everyone around that island was watching, I don't think there's ever seen anything like it.
So of course I want to keep my pride as that's where I'll be doing most of my practice (hops)

I would like to mention that I've taken on board all the advice in the beginners guide to heli flying, and how I see myself is at this point.
I've had the BCX2 now for about five months, I've mastered taking off tail in and off, and to be honest my favorite trick is to charge her up and down the room whirl rudder turning at speed and so on, plus delicate maneuvers like freaking Clare out by pinning the tail to the wall and gliding the CX2 along it while keeping the nose in front, or landing on the top high end of the box it came in, and so on.
Now taking the advice given I'm going for a good TX and Sim, only with my TX the Blade 400 comes along as well.
The heli shall stay put on the dining room table while I spend hours practicing the learning suites Rob demonstrated to me on how to control a CCP heli.
As I say the real chopper isn't going anywhere apart from me admiring it to death while I crash everything in sight on the Phoenix.
I think I'm taking the right road at this point in my hobby, I'm still having huge enjoyment with my BCX2 and in all truth I'm not bored with it at all, yes the urge is there to go bigger, but I can now enjoy endless flights without a single blade strike, and with confidence that I know what I'm doing.
As to begin with I was really ****ed at trashing it every 1-2 minutes, but you learn how wind vortexes over furniture can cause unstable hover, plus how that intern can lead to a crash.
Now I know the signs of turbulence wobble and can correct for it, plus now the panic factor has gone the whole show has become one of great relaxation and pure enjoyment.
In a way I hope doing loads of Sim practice, plus with all the help I've been offered I can keep the crash damage down lower than the CX2, as the basics plus guidance will be there before my first go at the joy sticks.
Anyway that's my battle plan, and if not for this place I wouldn't have a clue what to do and how, and most possibly by now I'd have crashed and broke so much stuff, not to mention the bank balance that I may have given it up for good.sigpicWayne AKA OB1
