  • first flight

Hello again,Well I had my first flight which ended in a burnt out ESC,my fault never thought about shutting throttle of when it crashed..Duh.
anyway got a new ESC and tried again with training legs,I got into a sort of hover but everytime the balls left the ground the heli wanted to go backwards and left.I tried tilting forward and right but didn't make much difference.Anyone tell me what I'm not doing, or doing wrong.
    cheers vic

What heli are you flying? Has it been setup correctly? Have you had an experienced pilot check it over for you and test hover it?

Hopney bees can be twitchy if not set up right, their light and affected by the wind a fair bit, having said that I had one and it flew very well.

It may be just the trim needing sorting.

I would suggest you either head off to a local model shop or try at a local club just to get it trimmed out.
        All the best

As much as you want to fly, it's a disaster waiting to happen. Every time your heli lands badly you are very likely to damage or bend something as you have already found out.

Have you bought Phoenix yet? If not remember it's an almost essential purchase and will teach you how to hover for free! Then you don't need to wait to get your flying fix.

Seriously it's the best purchase you will make in this hobby, much more important the heli you have bought.

Thanks Richie I understand,I've put it on my xmas list,I've sent for the Esky one which is only £15 so that might help for now.I've had a few practices and have got off ground for a few sec but run out off space trying to fly indoors.

i had a humming bird v3 and it was a twitchy little sucker to, only thing i can suggest is try flying it on a lino floor surface and as the heli gets light on the training gear keep it at that stage and see which way it turns on rudder for example and reduce the power make addjustment and try power again. Get each trim direction sorted till its basicaly bouncing on the spot but dont loose the fact that helis all need permanant flying whether its the wind or ground affect ( ground affect is basicaly the wind from the rotars pushed down hits the ground below it and bounces back up into the heli which affects its stability ) Turbulance .The higher of the ground the less the ground affect. Once the heli and you can hover comfortably the easier it gets but you are always twideling those sticks im affraid.Bigger helis are easier and more stable , my knight 50 I can take fingers off sticks and count to two and its still there where i left it
