Jr 9x 2 and 2.4 module vs Dx9

That mod really does look like a proper job its much better than the original module set up!!!
Are there instructions on the net of how to do that ?? also i have been offerd a 9x in very good condition at around the 140 mark is the price about right and can i carry out the mod to the 9x as its not the 9x2 ??
I wander if there are functions that i would miss between the 9x and the 9 x 2 anybody out there know what the differences are??

Mine was a 9X and I had it upgraded to a 9XII by MacGregor, mainly to get the 140 degree swash option. The other major differences are more model memories, up from 20 to 30 and more free mixers plus lots of other functions I don't really need.

The mod is pretty easy, first locate a Blade CX2 aerial, I know Midland stock the CX aerial but this doesn't swivel like the DX7, although mine is the CX aerial it does swivel but only at the base so you need to be careful that it only gets moved 90 degrees otherwise you'll wind the antenna lead up in knots!

First remove the original module, remove the original aerial and remove the back from the TX. Insert the Blade aerial into the hole in the top, to retain it there is a metal plate & screw supplied, unfortunately the aerial projects too far into the TX case so I packed it out with rubber 'O' rings to keep it snug. Remove the screws from the circuit board on the back panel and drill a hole through the top of the modules slot, feed the lead through the hole then reassemble the TX. Take the four cap head screws out of the module back and remove it, you will see the existing antenna lead is connected to the board with a right angle connector, this needs to be popped off, be careful to keep it straight, after this undo the nuts holding the external connector to the back of the module and remove it. Take the circuit board out and drill a hole corresponding to the one in the TX back then replace the circuit board, feed the antenna lead through the hole and connect to the circuit board, it has the same fitting and again you need to be careful to keep it square when connecting. Replace the cover of the module then fit into the TX.

I've been using it like this for quite a few months now with no problems at all but be aware this will invalidate your warranty. Cost wise I think you can still only buy the module with a 9 channel receiver at around £200 and I've heard the DSX9 will be £450 (at least according to Midland ) so you'd need quite a cheap 9X to make it worthwhile if you don't already have one.

By the way, I didn't find anything that looked like a switch inside the module so the output restriction we have over the US is either hardwired or firmware, no doubling of output then

Im seeing 9x for around the 100 mark and 9x2 for around 150 the prob is i want to get flying now and dont have a transmitter so i thought if i picked up one of these transmitters now and installed a module later I would have a 9channel system cabable of 2.4 ghz instead of the dx7 with only 7 channels ,,!!
By the way does dx7 feature all the heli mixes ect you would need or is it limited?
I miss flying and hate the weather thank god for flight sims

the DX7 has three mix programs, but if your using a governor why would you want mixing any way

Think I may well mod mine the Tx is out of warranty now anyway and I'm not worried about the module really.

As an aside apart from the comments above the main difference between the 9x and 9x2 was the fact that JR actually got glider mode right in the 9x2

How much does it cost to upgrade the transmitter from 9x to 9x2 ??

Including the postage both ways the upgrade was almost exactly £50 and for this they also replace the screen cover so it's impossible to tell it was ever a 9X, whether is was worth upgrading it is the question as the primary reason was to get the 140 degrees swash option so I could use it on my Raptor E550 - then I found out how to do it on my DX7 using a mixer!

Unless you desperately needed an extra 10 model memories over the 20 on the 9X and the 140 degree swash I'd argue it probably isn't worth the upgrade. Still, after swapping mode on fixed wing to match the mode I use for helis so I can now use just the one transmitter, it's amazing how fast the memories fill up!

To be honest I will probably never need more than 10 model memories !!! Also as an aside what is 140 degree swash ?? and would the 9x be able to utilise a mixer if I were to encounter this in the future??

The 140 degree swash is a JR thing I think, although Thunder Tiger decided to use it for the E550/620 for some strange reason Almost every other heli would be covered by the 90 and 120 degree swash mixing as standard plus systems with a seperate pitch servo don't need swash mixing anyway, if you're only going to buy current 'mainstream' helis then the 9X is fine.

A 120 degrees swash is where there are 3 servos connected to the swash at 120 degree spacings, 140 degree is where the two rear connections are farther back, 140 degrees from the front, it's supposed to reduce interation in certain circumstances, supposedly better for F3C aerobatic heli competition, I'm like 99% of the population and couldn't tell the difference anyway!

The 2.4 Gig version of the JR radio is a DSX9 (whats the 'S' for?) and I want one now!!!!!!
