  • Spektrum 6DX vs Spektrum 7DX (elec RCH)

    Hi,

I am new to RC helicopters and considering buying the Trex 450 (se v2), but I am unsure which radio is best, Spektrum 6DX/6DXi or Spektrum 7DX (2.4Ghz systems)?

It seems most folks like the Spektrum DX7 and recommend spending as much as you can on a radio for the future. What I wanted to know is, do I require 7 channels to fly this helicopter or are 6 channels just fine? What does an extra channel give me?

Finally Futaba or Spektrum, is there much difference between the standard of these two controllers?

    Thanks
    Drekhh

you only need 6 channels for the 450se v2, but consider if you will eventually buy a bigger heli. if you do you will obviously have to sell up and get a dx7 or equivalent. I personally prefer the feel of the spektrum and like the model matching feature.

The dx6 is not a "full range" system and it uses DSM1 ratherthan theDSM2 on the DX7. - so it uses its own 6 ch receiver. The DX7 will drive that receiver but the Dx6 won't drive the AR7000 or AR6200 DSM2 receivers.

The DX6i (the new curvy one)I think is DSM 2 and fullrange (ie compatable withthe DX7 but only6 channels).
Were you to get a bigger heli you might like to use 7 channels for a governor, but the trex450 only needs 6 channels.

The Dx6 is adequate for a trex450 or any other park fly model that doesn't fly far away. to fly larger models you shoud use the DSM2 system which is full range (about a kilometer ie plenty!).

Th 2.4Ghz systems are definitely the way to go with small electric models where on 35Mhz the electrics can interfere with eachother.

while we're on the topic.... there's a guy on eBay selling Ar7000 and AR6200 Rx's for dollars what we pay in pounds. I sent off for 4 * Ar7000's and will let you guys know what happens in terms of arrival times and VAT/IMPORT duty etc. Hopefully cause it's a tiny package it'll slip through without either
