  • Raptor V2 Carbon Blades

Whats the difference between the carbon blades over the standard wooden ones ?
Also is there any changes that i can do to it to save problems later ?

    cheers

    Hi

    Welcome to the forums.

The main advantage of Carbon blades over wooden ones, is the fact that they can be used at much higher head speeds, therefore are suited to aerobatics and 3d use.

Wooden blades are fine for starting out, just make sure that you keep the headspeed below 1700 rpm. Plus you are likely to break more and they are cheaper .

Once you progress to FFF \ Aerobatic and 3d flying, a headspeed of 1900 - 2000 for a 50size machine is far more common. It is not safe to run wooden blades at these speeds.

As far as modifications go. The only thing that is generally done when fitting carbon blades is to fit the harder damper rubbers in the head also.

first thing to do is go and have a good read of www.raptortechnique.com!

Useful mods to the raptor v2 (given to me on this forum when I started).

SUS tail hub - the std ali one has been known to come apart, but TT leave it in the kit and also sell an upgrade...
      tail hub £3.99

I lost a link from swash to mix arms when the pin came out so keep an eye on that- the titan plastic parts are cheap and have a retaining circlip and are otherwise identical.

They say the pitch slider bush (up and down on the main shaft) wears fast and metal one is worth it - my used rappy came with that on.

yuo might like to fit a tail mounted rudder servo conversion - but the front mount does keep the servo nice and clean.

A screw in the middle bottom of the front undercart leg so the head mates with a hole drilled in the under body clip on the canopy will prevent the canopy slipping off if you fly fast backwards.
Also a dowel through the hole in the front of the servo tray with fuel tube on the ends can be used to further secure the canopy and stop it wobbling from side to side - mine just rests on the inside of the canopy (no extra holes in the canopy).

consider a metal head block once you start throwing the heli about - with the hard dampers in it it will go oval and then the blades will go out of track. However the metal head block is getting on for 40 quid and 80 quid or so buys a kazama head assembly minus grips from the states (z-rc.com) which might be a better move.

for aerobatics, beefy collective servo with metal arm, metal collective tray, super light paddles.

Lastly - its a raptor - don't go overboard on the upgrades - spend more on fuel than upgrades - learn to fly it. Whatever they say here the raptor will do most manoevres almost as well as the latest models (they were all flying them less than 3 years ago).
It would be possible to spend the price of a trex600 or knight50 on raptor upgrades but its not worth doing that.
...cnc ali tail belt guide pulleys - what on earth is that about?

      Regarding wood vs carbon blades.

Once you learned to hover and start flying about fast you can get the blades going too fast when you descend. This is where a governor (another 40 quid) is useful. Carbon blades won't mind reving up - the wood ones could fly off and then the heli writes itself off running with one blade (and you hope the blade missed everyone). so once you are beyond the hover get some 40-50 quid carbon or glass blades.

Its all from here (and raptortechnique) gathered over time - the heli is sitting in front of me and for some reason that slips my mind I had to completely rebuild it last week

...the other thing I did was fit a raptor 60 tank after my std one sprung a leak (it is very thin where the bumps stick out). you don't get a long flight on the std tank with a 50 hyper.
I took somepoics of how i did it if anyone is interested.
