Each to their own, but someone new to flying is not going to learn anything from having -12 available other than that it costs more than it needs to if they dump the throttle, and they will do that at first, pretty much everyone does.

I'm not talking about 'years' here, it is more like not letting a new driver use reverse until they have got used to driving forwards a bit.
