  • Compass Knight Pro - Engine / Clutch Alignment

After successfully identifying my random purchase as a Knight Pro (thanks for helping guys) I've now finished the build but being new to Nitro I'm a little concerned about some vibrations.

I've bought a 2nd hand .50 OS SX Max lump from a T-Rex 700, I've fitted the clutch and mounted it in the heli, it starts lovely but I'm no nitro expert as I've only flown electric stuff: the vibrations 'seem' excessive..

Are there any noobie tips as to how I can minimize vibrations?

    Thanks!

Yeah, find them. If it's that bad dave that you are concerned about them then they will cause issues when flying, or worse still may lead to fatigue fractures. Are the vibes there when idling, if so to a point ignore them I would say that this was pretty normal. Spool it up and see if they diminish, a high frequency vibe that shows up on the tail is normally engine related and look for things like the clutch stack etc being in line. It's good practive when mounting the engine that you loosely bolt it in and then whilst spinning the engine with the plug out and using your starter tighten the engin bolts, I do one on one side and then the opposite just to help seat everything.

I've not had the balls to spool it right up yet, so I'm only noticing it at idle and light throttle.

I will however take your advice and losen the engine then turn it over with starter while re-torquing.

Dave, it's fairly normal for there to be some vibes at low revs as the engine isn't working or firing correctly. You could take the blades off, main and tail add some head loaders and spool up to somehere like 3/4 throttle to see if it settles down. Or, take it to the local club and give it a hover

If my velcro straps show up this week for the training gear I'll give it a test hover on saturday, We fly in one of my mates fields so theres pleanty of space I just dont want to blow the thing to bits! I've also got this irrational fear of something vibrating lose and me losing throttle control :|
