  • Next move to master.

    Hey guys.

I've been at RC Helis for about 2 months and I can easily hover the in a tail in orientation.

I watched some youtube videos on what move/flying skill to master and I am currently busy trying to get side on orientation under the knee but thats easier said than done.

I had to put training gear on as I often loose orientation and then the bird tends to flip over, not to the point where it crashes but almost a couple of times.

Any input on whats the best way from transferring from hovering to actual flight?

hi, mate. i would go for being more capable of hovering in all orentations before gaining to much height co,s it will end in tears, and for the safety of the young boys either keep them at a safe distance or better still the heli much further away,

Ja I get the safety issue but just wanted to make a short video, told them to stay behind me but you know kids.

I am currently trying side on and its going to take some getting used to.

      Thanks for the feedback.

really you need more room to do more you really dont wanna fly close to anything humans especialy you would be shocked at the damage they can do have a look on youtube.

but curcuits side on hover and then figure 8's then nose in hover are the next things....but please get the kids away!!!!

well I started in late January ...

I went forward with orientation trainings ... I hover skids at eye level or a meter higher and then turn the heli nose pointing 1/3/5/7/9/11 o'clock (all tail in) and try to hover at each for 10seconds and then go back to tail in ... this helps to familiarize yourself with different views at the model and knowing how to deal in each state ... it definitely helps to "play" on you cyclics so turn to lets say 1 o'clock then give left/right aileron (small movement only) to know how the model behaves ... once you are happy with all orientation, you could start fly-bys .. basically bring the model to either side of you turn it side on then forward flight passing yourself for lets say 10 meters and bring it back tail in ... when you are happy with both directions try flying an oval zero from either side ... still keeps me busy these days ...

            +1 on the kids...

I don't want to sound like I'm preaching, but all it takes is a servo to give up and you're flying an unguided chainsaw.

Thanks I think circuits is still a long way off for me.

I think for now the consensus is to hover in all orientations before going on to any type of actual flight.

Yes I know, thanks for the feedback. Normally "fly" in a field down the road but just wanted to shoot the video.

or a snapping link, happened to me today, right turn, little yaw but then the model flipped to the left, inverted and in ... no human error at all - no control either - seems to be a mechanical issue ... but in my initial reply I focussed on how to progress ...
