What does it mean when they say is the battery puffed?

It means the battery looks like its expanded. It's a sign that the battery is defective or damaged.

Nothing to do with leaving it uncharged for a while then.

Depends how long it has been left for.

It doesn't normally disfigure them, but it does ruin them, even if left in storage mode.

Like it's inflated a bit - like a balloon - swollen up - probably a sign of internal gassing caused by over current charge / discharge, or maybe even just age.
Probably time to safely destroy it by stabbing it with a garden fork to make sure all the smoke leaks out...

I think it is generally recommended, plus earthing the vicious LiPo for maximum impact.
Don't forget your video camera.
And some bandages.

If you were to connect two lipo's in series first then put the fork in. Would this give a better result?

I have a couple of puffed batteries which i thought about throwing away but decided to just keep running them. they are still going strong 6 months later!
