Thanks for all your replies, great forum BTW. I should have mentioned that I do have Pheonix and have done so for a few years allbeit with a 4ch esky coaxial tranny, but have only recently caught the bug with a CP. I am sold on a Trex 500, just thought that crashes would be cheaper with FBL and they do look better but looking at the prices you guys pay for blades compared to the tenner a time ones on the SR, cost is not an issue. TBH so desperate to get out will buy the first decent 500 that appears. cheeky to ask i know but, will anyone have the setting for the dx8?

The 500 is a nice machine. I keep going back to mine having had a try with many others.
You could try here:-
T-REX 500E Super Combo KX017014 Back in stock!
If you put in code BMFA5 at checkout you get 5% discount.
Perfect to start.
I started with a Blade 400 and found it more than adequate. At least 8 at our club started with one and they are still around for new comers to have a try.

Hi Mate,
I took the plunge in Jan and initially started out with a DX7s and Phoenix sim played around for about 2 months and then bought the new Blade 450X. My reasons for choosing this model were that it was relatively cheap, cheap parts and also easy to repair in my eyes. Also it is flybarless and I personally believe that this is the future, I've been flying now for two months and it flies lovely, not overly great in strong wind but then no 450 is. Also after 2 months I have a lot more confidence and I am attempting more things now such as nose in hover and circuits. I will be honest and say I had a couple of crashes but by repairing my heli I have learnt so much and now have less fear of crashing. Good luck just thought I'd give my opinion.

I've not long got my 500efl, although I'm running vbar not 3GX I don't think I'd be limited by the 3GX, and I have to say I love the thing. I started with a 450 sized heli ( well it uses 360mm blades instead of 325mm ) and I wish I'd got a 500 sooner.
It's much more stable in wind than a 450, I was practicing my inverted hovering in silly winds at the weekend, and the 450 would never have come out of the case.Pete
