1st helicopter

hi everyone! I am wanting to get an rc helicopter as I got a picoo2 indoor one as a gift which I am really enjoying! I have experience flying a small rc plane and fancy a helicopter. However in very light winds my plane can lose control and is annoying because there are few few days with no wind.

I have around £130 to spend and want one fairly wind resistan6t (one that could still go out in a 7 or 8 mph wind?).

£130 will get you a contra rotating one but i think they would struggle in that wind

The Blade CX2 is the newest one and is very well specced,it has a 2.4ghz radio which is good because by the nature of these small electrics you could potentially be operating it near to someone else seeing as they are used anywhere,,35mhz will be affected if by chance you were on the same frequency where as 2.4 wont,

The other main one is the Perkins range,i have flown both and they are very good and very strong more importantly

Which one would you recommend? Like I say I'd like to be able to fly outside even if there is a bit of a breeze. Does it go on weight (the heavier the helicopter, the less moved by wind it is)

Its a weight,size power thing really

The Perkins twister gets blown by a breeze and sometimes you have insufficient power to bring it back

Out of the 2 i would suggest the Blade,i have the Twister but feel the Blade is a better option,i have flown a couple of Blades and they are as good if not better than the Twister

The Twister i have is the Medivac

Hopefully some more people will make suggestions

Contra Rotating Fixed Pitch helis and all FP helis to be truthful are absolutely no good in any kind of wind full stop. On the least windy days its possible but realistically if you want to fly outside Collective Pitch is the only option and even then the cheaper ones are still not happy in anything more than a light breeze

Blade CX2 and fly it when there isnt a wind issue.. The twister 3D is a good CP unit but the budget limits teh radio requirement the blade comes with one..

i have just bought an esky belt cp off ebay. its a collective pitch heli and is about the same size as a trex 450. i am very pleased with it and fly it outside most days. i paid £115 for it ready to fly

thats what i was gonna suggest, i was gonna get this model until i decide i wanted to spend a bit more but otherwise thats a good choice from what i hear.

I have no experience of the Belt cp so cant comment

Fixed pitch helis have a fixed main blade angle and height control is altered by increasing and decreasing rotor speed so you add power and it climbs and reduce power to descend

Collective pitch helis as well as rotor RPM control have main blade pitch control so that for a constant rpm you can increase and decrease lift or apply negative pitch to enable inverted flight

Collective pitch helis are more user friendly but good ones are usually more expensive

I am personally very cautious of the cheap fixed or collective pitch helis..

I only suggest the contra ones as i know they are good,hopefully other people will input a bit

I have found the single bladed fixed or collective helis to be overly twitchy and ultimately hard to get on with until you go up to something like the T rex 450 or Mini Titan range
