  • How to move forward smoothly with mCPX

    I am still practising in Phoenix with the mCPX and and wanted to ask about accelerating in any direction.

    With many of the models I have flown when I push forward on the cyclic stick the nose drops and the model starts to move forward and I can increase the pitch of the main rotors and this tends to pull the model along.

    However, with the mCPX it just wants to dive to the ground so I have to then pull back on the stick and then it stops and then I push forward and dives again and I end up sort of scalloping along. I am not as heavy on the sticks as I describe here since I am exaggerating to make my point but do you see my meaning?

    Any suggestions please?

    I had my first go with an mcpx earlier and was very impressed, micro inputs on the sticks though as it wasn't mine to crash

    It was a lot more stable than i imagined it would be and i can't wait to get one

      if you are learning to fly on phoenix then i suggest a bigger model and it will be easier to fly

        Yes I agree a bigger model is easier but I have ordered an mcpx so that is mainly what I am learning on in phoenix.
        Can I assume the characteristics are realistic in the simulator?

          no, not really.

          They arent terrible but arent completely realistic either.

          I dont find the MCPX behaves in the way you say it does in the sim to be honest, how far forward are you tipping it? It only needs a tiny little bit of cyclic to pitch it forward enough to get it moving... The MCPX doesnt have a whole lot of power so your never going to be able to fly it forward at full pitch with the tail pointing at the sky as you would a bigger heli with a brushless motor.

            Ah, OK. I think I was expecting too much of it then, your answer makes sense. The models I flew in phoenix that could power forward with the nose dipped are bigger. I find the mcpx just wants to keep going towards the ground. It won't hold the attitude either - as soon as I release the stick it self corrects and comes to a stop because the nose levels off again.

              That's what I found as well. One had to pump the little bugger to get a sort of spurting forward flight. Stick forward, centre, f, c, f, c, and so on. Prolonged forward stick, even a little, lead to the nose progressively tipping more forward until SPLAT! The real thing didn't behave that way.

                The real MCPX wont self level. To get an mcpx to fly forward you tip the nose a bit with the cyclic then just dont touch the cyclic stick again and hold the pitch, itll keep flying until you use the cyclic to nose up again and stop.

                I think changing the flybar from active to passive (or t'other way around) in the model settings changes that see-saw behaviour in the sim to be more like the real thing.

                Really though I can't see any advantages to learning on the MCPX in the sim. Use the 700. Visibility and learning orientations is by far the most useful aspect of the sim and having a small model is only going to make that more difficult

                  That's exactly what I mean, Vikki. Good to know the real model doesn't behave quite like that.
                  I like flying the eflite blade Cp pro in the sim so I might start to use that one most of the time and dip into the mcpx now and then.

                    also re calabrate the controller as mine some times plays up not very often but i dont hurt every so often

                      i don't know what kind of mcpx you guys have but my mcpx levels out if i push cyclic forward and leave it alone.

                        I don't use the mcpx in Phoenix, it's not a true representation of how the real heli flys. Like Delarado said above use a larger heli that's easy to see.

                        Phoenix is all about training your brain to react with the correct stick inputs. Don't get hung up on which model you use.

                        Also, check that the wind isn't set too high, it will make the mcpx pendulum along!
