  • Orientation advise!!

    Hi all.
I'm getting there with hovering tail in/ nose in / left & right.....
How do you get around having the heli's inverted????
Only been trying on the sim but always resulting in 'heli...meet terra firma'!!
Am i trying to run before i walk?

    Cheers.
    Cheers all.....Karl...

Practice, practice, practice and then practice some more. Then when you get bored with that, do some practicing instead. No substitute for it.

Trex 450 SEV2, hack, freeby, but getting expensive. Binned the bu**er !

Use the heli training section if you're using Phoenix. Then flip the heli over so you don't have to worry about getting the heli inverted in the first place.

You may be running a bit early. If you try to do nose in before you can do tail in you will get confused. Controlling the heli inverted is more difficult than just flipping it over and back again. You do need to be able to get back to a position you are happy with as things have a habit of not going exactly as intended. There isn't a lot of time to recover from inverted, but it's not impossible. Once you can do it on the sim you then have to do it for real which is usually a lot more difficult to start with. Once you can do it for real it's usually easier than the sim. It's not just about learning how to do it, you have to do it without thinking. This takes time as you are rewiring your brain. Stress plays a part though and I think it's possible that the greater stress of real flying makes you learn faster. It does tend to be more expensive unless you have professional lessons. That's not as stressful as flying solo though.

Upright, tail in is easiest. Inverted, nose in is easiest IMO.

Hi mate I'm still a beginner and now have the hang of tail in hovering and orientation basic circuits and that's it. I was experimenting with inverted hover on Phoenix and I could do it however when I tried last night for real with my 450X I honestly panicked and flipped it back to normal and I won't be trying inverted flight for a while yet. Just a word of warning it is a lot harder in real life than on the sim!

On the sim, can you do fast forward flight ? If not, I'd play with this a bit first - it's good fun.

Once you can (to a reasonable degree), you can mess about doing loops, rolls, etc. From there, you can get in & out of inverted; try & hover; recover, when you lose it, etc.

There's a lot to be said for being able to turn your heli around and fly it back - when it's heading for the horizon, possibly upside down...

No its not. Its just a lot scarier!

When flying inverted if you flip and dont know what to do when it starts to go wrong just do what youd do if you were right way up. Mash the collective and climb until you work out the right thing to do!

I find the easiest way to flip is to go forward on the cyclic at the same time as you give it some collective, to do like a forward arc. That way when you get on the negative a bit early, the heli wont shoot away from you (like it will if you backflip and get on the collective too early) and if it shoots towards you then you just need to keep going the same way you were going....

Dont try that on a 700 though incase it hits you! haha.

just get used to flying in idle up do some basic areobatics such as stall turns rolls and loops these will be a lot more controlable and give you the confidence to flip inverted, as someone has said on here keep on the sim set your weather to what you get over the field and get inverted in that also practice being inverted and pitching up and away from yourself this way over the field will not seem so scary also a 450 inverted with a flybar will take a lot of inputs to remain stable in normal conditions such as a breeze, 500 size onwards will be alot more stable especially if you use flybarless system like a beast X or vbar happy flying there is no substitute for practice though regards j boy

well ive not long started doing flips and rolls and a very little bit of inverted and i find the best way is to roll to the side so your still tail in inverted ,,this way left and right are the same way

It is harder for real because it's scarier. When things get a bit scarier we get better, then it levels out, then our abilities go down. Perhaps I should say things appear more difficult in real life, until you get used to the fear and then once you get back to the flat part of the curve it will seem easier. It is also hard to keep standing with your leg shaking. It is why we do it though.
