  • Mini Pred Tail

    Hi

My sons Mini Pred has for no known reason since its last flight, developed a non stopable rotating heli. It's rotating tail going right.

All the mechanics seem OK the Gyro is moving the servo the correct way but it doesn't seem which way the tail servo is moved on the boom the tail will rotate left or right but not lock.

The symptms would appear just as if the tail servo was directly into chn. 4 bypassing the gyro yet if the Heli. is moved physically left or right then the gyro does move the tail servo.
The last time it was flown outdoors a month ago there where no problems, know it's the first night indoors it doesn't want to play.
It has the Mini Pred fitted gyro (head holding) I'm beggining to suspect the gyro.

    Any ideas much appreciated.

Have you changed the tail servo recently?

Is there a reverse switch on the gyro

It sounds just like the gyro has been reversed

When I used to have a Mini-Pred, the little grub screw that held the tail rotor to the tail rotor shaft used to come loose now and again (it was my first heli, there was NO loctite on it) resulting in a spin to the left (tail to the right), you want to check that.

Thanks for the replies, futher to your answers,

The servo is the original and not been changed.

Checked the tail to shaft grub screw all ok

Not yet checked the reverse sw. will try that tomorrow.

          Thanks all

            Hi

I own 2 Mini preds and have the same problem with them both i have adjusted the servos checked the gyro turned the gain up and also checked the soldered joints in the gyro as i am told these can cause problems. Spoken to a chap at century he does not know what the problem is but has said he will send me a new gyro FOC to try i think they may have a inherant fault i read a lot bout preds just spining for England including my 2............

              Hi Crashed again

I have found a problem with one of the cap head screws holding one of the tail rotors had come loose, I have now locktited these screws in.

I also reset the tail rotor angles and the Bird flies again. I'm not totally convinced I've cured the problem and still have a sneaky feeling it's the gyro, so have another gyro (not a Pred one) on standby.

Let me know how your new gyro makes out.

                Hi,
my dad has my mini pred now and he has totaly rebuilt it, he has set it up, the tail was wagging and making it dificalt to control befor he had it off me but after the rebuild (with a compleate ally head set, new boom, tail rotor saft and main blades) it still wagged and span, i put a spair gyro on it and it almost straight away cured the problem, so i guess the gyros on the mini pred are prone to playing up.

                hope this helps you guys

                  Hi Guys

I Have a mini pred as well but my problem is interference, I have strapped a ferret ring to the brushless motor and it has seemed to have cured most of it but when the pred gets so far away from me it starts gliching again,, its a pain dose anyone have any ideas,, its a good heliy shame about the interference. Hi Shell,

the radio gear on the Pred is not all that good quality, are you still using the same/original Transmitter?

have you shortend the reciver aireal? (should never do this)

a better brand and quality transmiter and reciver would make a diferance, i never had any signal problems when i had the Pred, but then again, i just cant fly LOL

                          Hi Michelle

Beware re- just buying a Tx. when I tried to change the crystal in the Rx of the Pred (so son could use heli at indoor club) I found his Futaba 6 Tx would not work with the Pred Rx.
I've had to change the original Rx to one which is compatible with his Futaba Tx and now all is fine, also a lot more control is available in the Futaba.

If it was available when I first bought his Pred I'd have gone for a Spectrum Tx and Rx.

He doesn't appear to get any glitches.
                          .

                          Cheers

the only gyro i had spair was one from a Walkera 60 heli, i put that on my dads Pred, set it up and it solved the problem.
