  • Trouble with GY401.

Hi everyone, just joined, been flying helis for about a year.

Im having magor probs with my new GY401, I have read the thread on gyros and already new most of what was explained.
My tail is wagging really bad in hover, it doesnt matter what gain i have it set to it still wags. ive checked all the wires to see if there was a break.
when i give trottle or pull down on throttle in idle up the tail stays dead strait but as soon as i bring it back to hover it wags like mad.

If anyone has any ideas or help i would be very gratefull as im at a loss as why its doing it.

    Cheers.

have you tried adjusting the delay pot on the 401?

if that doesnt work try a longer or shorter servo horn.

Thanks, i guess i would need to turn the delay up? ive got it on 50 at the mo, it goes from 0 to 100.
I have got quite a short horn on the servo with the limit set half way so i will lingthen it and increase the limit, see if that works.

          Thanks for your advise.

I don't know about the Optic Tx, but there are several Txs out there that default to an automatic gyro gain control on channel 7 (my JR9xii is one, and I think the Futaba 9c does it as well). If you've set your gear up in the 'usual' manner with the gyro gain connected to channel 5, then your Tx adjustments will have no affect as they will be going to channel 7.

If this is the case, then you need to inhibit the automatic gyro function, and start adjusting the gyro gain via the end points on channel 5.

              Is the headspeed high enough?

If it's not a problem with it being in the wrong Rx Ch ( I did the exact same thign mentioned above)
Then it's likely the HS55 servo. it's not really fast enough on a tail in my findings. an HS50 would be better or one of the new small digi servos

Hi again, thanks for all the help, need some more now please.
I have just got a new futaba digital sevo 'S9650' for my tail to go with my 401. The first test flight did not go well, the tail is spinning around quite fast, the light on the gyro is on constant when i power up to show its in AVCS mode but the tail is not locking in position. If i reverse the gyro then it hovers fine but i cant fly it like that. The tail also spins round with the gyro in normal mode.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this could be?

                  Cheers.

Oh, and if i slightly move the gyro from left to right in AVCS mode the sevo goes mental, juddering from left to right very fast and sperradicly. it doesnt seem right.
