  • BMFA A test questions

I'm preparing to take my BMFA A test for helicopters. I would like some pointers to which sections of the BMFA handbook I should spend most time on learning?Could members chime in with some example question etc... That they were asked when they took the test. If there are any examiners who see this post I would love to get some direction on which sections to concentrate my efforts. I still have quite a bit of time to prepare.

If you read the bit in the BMFA handbook about the test, it tells you which sections you need to revise. There was a web site that had a random quiz generator on it but I'm afraid I can't track it down.

In my test, it was a right grilling, covering just about everything. But I think you just really have to demonstrate that you've actually read the thing (have heard of some that just had a few easy questions). Doesn't hurt to know your sweets from your smarts

Just found the RCHA post with the test generator, unfortunately it's a broken link now. http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/main-discussions/11642-bmfa-test-practice.html

If you go here you can take the fixed wing test, which has similar questions: British Model Flying Association - Midland Area

Learn and understand - Air navigation orders, sweets, smart, pre-flight check & general safety

Plus anything else in the handbook - Read all of it twice over the week before the test - you'll be fine.

you will get sick of keep reading it over and over but you will remember it

and what is the minimum nose radius of a model?
when you can answer it we'll know you've read the hand book

                    7.5mm

But it really only applies to Gliders and then specifically to competition classes and the FAI definition of a model aircraft.

I know, thought it was a bit unfair but you are right, read the whole thing anyway.

Don't forget it's not just the BMFA handbook, but also your club/field rules. Layout, no fly areas etc etc.
+1 for a grilling on the questions, I finally twigged that something was amiss when I got rocket trajectory questions!!
I guess thats what happens when your the examiners caller!

it is a question i herd at the end of a B test
the examiner was after those who were listening in on the questions to read the handbook
                              and it works
