Should I sell my MCPX for a Trex 250?

Hi all,

Toying with the idea of selling my mcpx and getting a second hand Trex 250, the mcpx has had to have a new 3 in 1 (after only six weeks) and has kind of put me off a bit. I replaced a load of the stock parts with Microheli ones as I broke them but the screws are so tiny you have to be a watch maker to work on it.

I only hover indoors so it wont make much difference there as I'm not a crazy indoor 3D merchant (or outdoor for that matter) and dont get me wrong its a nice bit of kit but I feel like I need something a little bigger with (slightly) larger fixings. I am planning on getting a 450, but I also want something smaller for practice. Just seems like the MCPX is always going wrong at the moment?

Am I just feeling sad?.......

No keep the mcpx. From reading your post I would say you are still in the silly crashing stage. Get past that and go for it then.

P.S. I have crashed mine a whole bunch of times. Never broke any parts though.

I am not saying you are an absolute crash merchant so no offence.

Hi Rob,

I do not think that would be a great idea as the Trex 250 is also very small. The mCPX has an amazing ability to take accidents well, which you will not find with a Trex 250 helicopter. By no means is the mCPX bullet proof it can still be damaged, it's just that the Trex 250 will be damaged a lot easier.

Maybe the Blade 300 X (when it's released) or 450 sized helicopter would be ideal.

Rob you will have more problems and maintenance to do on a 250, the mcpx beats it hands down as a learning tool.

A crash on a 250 will see you most likely needing blades, shafts, gears, bearings and loads of time to rebuild and get flying right again. I have both and would sell the 250 first if i had to.

If i was you i would keep the mcpx and get a 450 or 500.

If you are determined on a 250 sized heli, then maybe consider a gaui x2 (try to find one used). It is very stable for its size, and I'd say it flies as well as my 450s. It's withstood crashes well too for me - 2 so far with only a link and skid broken.

No, if you're flying indoors, stick to the MCPX. a 250 will slice your TV, curtains, carpets, dog.....

+1 on everything all the other posters have said. stick to the MCPX. If you want something bigger go for at least a 450, a 250 can be an expensive nightmare.

By te way - it's indoor flying that appears to cause the most breakages, too many heli-magnetic hard objects.
Get it outdoors, over grass, and most times it will just bounce and be good to go again.

i have an mcpx and a 250 know which i think is best for me by a long long way, if my mcpx died tomorrow i would replce her immediately, if my 250 died well i wouldnt waste my money on another but that is my opinion for the level im at now

i have lerned on my cx 250se and loved every minit, cheep to crash. (i hover in my kitchen) i would stick with the mpcx until u get used to hovering , for me the 250 was my choice for my lack of flying space .......mick

Not detecting much love for the 250 here! I got a couple of mcpx's and a few trex 250s. I love them both.
The 250 takes some taming and if you crash it you will almost certainly be looking at a new gearwheel, flybar and feathering shaft.
It is cheap though and a crash on a 250 will only average out at around £5-6 a time. A bigger bird is much more.
The 250 is a size I like and I stuck with it. I can rebuild them in my sleep and find them easy to work on. A very simple head setup for a FB machine.
Unless you can fly a MCPX around outside with ease then I would avoid a 250. It is supposed to be one of the more difficult birds to master.

Just picked up a 2nd hand and broken 250 to step up from the mcpx, it only cost me £15 to get it flying again and gave me my first experience of working on and setting up a proper heli. Only got as far as hovering and orientations as I get used to it. It feels bigger, I can fly it in a little more wind and is an interesting physcological step from the mcpx which I used to throw around with little concern about crashing whilst being less intimidating than the 500 I have sat on a shelf at the moment. I would say if you find a second hand bargin then go for it (I can fly it in the local sports hall as well, can't do that with the 500), if you don't like it sell it on for what you paid for it. I'm keeping mine for the time being as it puts a smile on my face, only had it in the air for a week though.

Looks like the general feeling is not to sell for a 250. Might do like Dave says and get a cheap/damaged 250 but I'm eager to get a 450 too! ARGH! Might have to get them both AND keep the mcpx!

I might take off the micro heli landing gear in the mean time, I seem to have done nothing but break skids and at £7.99 a set it's getting a bit much! I'm sure I could get landing gear AND a main shaft for a 450 for that amount!
