  • General consensus of Mode 1 or Mode 2 in the UK?

    Hey Guys,

I've done a bit of reading, and know it seems to be a matter of preference, but I just wondered if there is a general consensus within the UK of the main mode of transmitter to buy? I'm new to the game, so haven't been tainted either way, but am looking to buy one, and just wondered if there was one prefered over the other.

    Many thanks

    Matt

Mode 2 i would suggest if you are new to things. Most people use mode 2. I think it is probably down to which you experience first to be honest.

Mode 2 is the most common by far.
Futaba and JR allow you to reset the TX to any mode. I think it's only Sprektrum (of the main brands) that can't be swapped via software.

          Well I started mode1
and for the last 6 years Ive been flying mode1
but I have now taken the plunge to change to mode2, and jeez is it hard.
The reason I have decided to change is that I was struggling to progress,
and there are only 1 or 2 mode1 fliers I know of on here that could of helped.

So no more flying for real until I have cracked mode2, and it aint easy changing,
as soon as the heli gets out of your comfort zone, muscle memory kicks in and it all goes tits up

So I guess what Im trying to say is the majority in the UK fly mode2 so if you want help
setting the machine up and flying it, start mode2 then there is all the help you need.

                Nuffing wrong with Mode 1

But if your starting out go Mode 2. Really because most 'cack handled' people fly mode 2 so it would be easier to get help
                Cheers Matt

Most heli pilots fly mode 2, so you will find it easier to get help and instruction if you stick with that.

Mode 1 came about because prior to the introduction of proprtional twin-stick radios, the old "bang-bang" systems had the aileron and rudder switches on the right of the transmitter, and the elevator and throttle functions on the left. Many of the experts of the day had got so used to having the elevator on the left, they couldn't adapt. Naturally they taught their students the same mode, which is why it has failed to die out....

                  Have a look here:

                  http://www.singlechannel.co.uk/

and select the "Reeds" drop down at the top of the page, and you'll see what I mean.....
                  Pete

No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.

Mode 2 is the logical way with Helis for me although I fly planks on Mode 1 and 2.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?
