  • Inverted my MCPX today!

I've been practicing flying backwards on the Sim now for a week or two, but when I get bored of that I flip the heli and see about hovering it inverted to get used to it.

It's been windy for about 10 days, today seemed calm so seemed the perfect day to try backwards flight for real, except when I got out the it was quite gusty and making MCPX life generally not too fun, a battery flying around and another battery attempted backwards messily but the gusts were making everything hard, I took MCPX to a smaller field and flipped it! Then hovered it inverted for a bit, righted it, flipped it again, hovered it a bit and righted it again! I did two batteries of forward and back flips to inverted (with a few bail outs to throttle hold in between) before decided to quite while I was ahead.

Was so fun, the backwards flips were a bit scary when you realise there are MCPX blades heading your way, no idea how that must feel with a bigger heli! Ah I'm chuffed haha, feels like actual progress!

Well done, no matter how hard i try i just cant even get the hang of nose in hovering, i can manage pack after pack of tail in but for some reason nose in just get me in a mess, i cant even manage it in pheonix or in the house with my fp heli so i think it will be quite some time before i am ready to try anything fancy

Just stick at it mate, one day it'll just kinda click with you! I learned hovering on my FP, I found that when I would get unstuck I'd just spin the heli around to tail in again and re-gain myself, then try again. Are you comfortable with side in? Maybe try a bit of hovering just a bit past side in, between side and nose in for a bit until that feels comfortable.

Its funny you should mention side on as i just gave it a try and didnt stay in the air for more than a couple of secs lol.
I think i am going to spend some more time on pheonix later and choose a bigger more stable heli to practise on as the mcpx is just a bit too small to see on the screen properly.

I find the normal Phoenix MCPX is not so great, I use HeliFreak - View Single Post - Mcpx this one, feels more like my MCPX. I also try fly with a bit of wind on, to be honest where I live it's so windy I might whack the wind up to max and just learn to fly it that way! Haha.

If you go Start > Documents > PhoenixRC > Varients > Helicopters and stick the .pxv in there.
