help on how to side in hover

when i took my training gear off a few months ago i had already got the hang of nose left hovering ,decided to change ends after a few days i got right side off pretty good dooing it without thinking but tried to hover nose left,i suck big time what have i done rong. any ideas.....mick

easyest way, stay tail in, move the heli to the left and keep going, your stil be tail in, but your be looking side on at the heli, then your get used to seeing the side of your heli, then start turning it in front of u, just take your time

It's just practice honest Little and often is the best way and spend more time on your worst side

I initially found it easier to hover at 45 degrees rather than the full 90 initially. So go halfway to the side in hover and just try that for a bit. Once you've got used to the different picture, try for the full side in.

Just remember your bailout - bring it immediately back to tail in with a quick jab on the rudder and recover. Then go back to trying again.

hovering at 45 deg is how i started to learn with nose left i was doing a few feet ff thats when i decided to change around ,only diference is i put a new rx on now i have twice as much power(real 100pc throttle)..my lama v3 is out of action means less practice)....mick

Don't practice one thing over and over, go left for 30secs then go right for 30secs then go nose in etc. Practicing one side for flight after flight will cause the problems your having. It's rare, once your flying that your heli will stop in one orientation for long periods of time so hovering one side for 6mins might be good practice to start with it will soon cause one Handidness.

If you're confident enough a bit of height and distance works wonders for perception. With the heli close to the floor it is difficult to see whether it is sliding away or towards you because you can't get a level.

thanks for the info guys this hobby is frustrating at the best of times ,if i do 1 battery left side, 1battery right side things should work better, just wondering if the same thing is going to happen(forget how to do left side in) ive tried sliding around on the floor with training gear on but binned the idea, too unstable (the heli not me ,matter of opinion realy) i do fly at least 2 foot off the ground ,more stable. the kitchen isnt very forgiving......mick

Keep changing during flight, it will also get you used to moving the heli in the sky as well.

Your head will get used to transitioning from one orientation to another as well.

I started by hovering tail in out in front of me then gradually moved the heli sideways and back bit by bit until the hel was at the side. I kept my body facing forwards only turning my head so that i was looking at the heli side on. Then once confident doing that both sides then i started turning the heli from tail in to side on out in front. As already mentioned it just takes time and practice

It's not a bad idea to be able to hover side on, but I'm not sure that it's worth spending that much time on. If you can hold a hover between 45 degrees either side then you can turn it to one side and move sideways in that direction. You can then do a basic lazy 8 and you'll find that it's easier having the heli side on when its in front of you and moving. You can then get used to seeing the heli from different distances and orientations. Just throw it about a bit more and practice getting it back under control when you overdo it. Its much easier having the heli moving when its nose in than when its hovering. Flying backwards looks good as well. But the gyro does the work.

I learnt side in by having the heli side in but stand in the same direction as heli so you will also be side in to the heli (so you tx is parrel to the heli) i did this as it gets you used to looking at the heli from the side but you are acctually controlling the heli as it it was tail, i think this is what pete is saying as well, Its a good method just dont fy tooo close to yourself

Don't skip training and run before you hover. I am having to retrain basics now. If your imagine the tail is anchored in one spot, move the nose to different clock points, hovering for 30 secs, say from 9 - 3. Once mastered you can change times like 7 - 5 and then all times. And as others say keep swapping sides. It's much harder to do this than flipping and rolling.

just been having another go ,cant seem to get the nose to the left far enough (might have to check the heli over) it leans slightly to the left in a tail in hover (new rx, servos are slightly off centre ) thats what i love about the 250 its gotta be setup perfectly or its a pig to fly....back to the ol drawing board .....mick

just an update ,while checking over the heli i noticed the right servo was hardley mooving (heli to the right) seems ok forward/back/left so i checked all servos ,everything ok.changed rx, still same problem. tx wont reprogram on pc so i have now changed to the hkx7 ,problem is i have only one good rx if that goes ,no replacement available on the plus side the heli is so much more controlable(stops when told) hovering 1000% better the ct6a tx has served me well over the last 18 months so no complaints .cant decide weather to buy d6i or dx7 just for the 250s funds are realy tight at the moment.......mick
