  • novice hoping for answers and help - please!!??

    Greetings experts.

I'm a complete newbie, just bought my first helicopter, but I cannot get it off the ground. Here are a few specs:
Kyosho EP concept SR, with Jetranger fuselage.
    Multiplex Pico 5 ch receiver
    Graupner Solar MOS regulator
    01T Gyro
    Carbon blades
    Graupner MC-12 Tx
Graupner 'Heli Special" 27T Motor (New)
Sanyo 2400 Ah NiMh 8 cell battery
    T/O Weight about 1700G

When I got it it was a right state - the previous owner had even less of a clue than I did! I'ts since been reprogrammed to Mode 2, the left lever operating pitch. The throttle is CH5 using a potentiometer on the Tx. It spins up nicely, and I've got it trimmed (sort of) especially after reprogramming the basics into the Tx. It just will not get airborne! I add pitch at full speed and it slows, it really appears to grunt although less than before since the new motor has been installed. - it appears to give more lift at 0 pitch. I broke the original foam core blades during a moment of idiocy not having set the thing up first and now it's got 400mm carbon blades. Pits now is a matter of only a few degrees and adding pitch really doesn't move the blades a huge amount, perhaps a few degrees more.

It is certainly light on the skids, but appears extremely reluctant to escape gravity.

I suspect that the blades are too heavy or too long. adding pitch just slows the rotors down. Comments?

Anybody's guess as to what I'm doing wrong??

    Many thanks

throttle is normally on the throttle stick with the pitch which is where the throttle curve in your radio comes in handy. im not fluent with the graupner tx's so cant help there. take a look at the manual it should tell you how.

it could be that your just not turning the speed up high enough or the battery is flat/knackered.

      Ade,
I appreciate the reply, however, with full throttle and as much pitch as I can get out of the rotor head, it still won't leave the ground.

Having read a number of other posts, and just having bought another motor which made almost no difference whatsoever, I'm tempted to dismantle and rebuld the gearbox. I'm just wondering if something in there is not right.

      Cheers

if the rotor speed slows when you add pitch and your defo adding positive pitch and the motor is ok then its almost definitly your battery.

Where in 'The Fatherland' are you?. You need a local helper. Club, shop or helifreak.

              Well, What a change eh?
I met a local specialist who knows what he's doing having built and flown Helis for many a year. Yesterday I went along with him to the local field and tried to get my POS in the air - with no success. Expert says - rotor head speed is too slow. After spending a lot of money on the heli, and various upgrades, I've finally had enough. I'm not spending extra bucks on something that was not very good to start with - my lesson learned. I really cannot justify putting LiPo's, a new controller and a brushless motor on my old nail, so I've taken the receiver off it, and the rest goes on evilbay.
I've also taken delivery of my WiK/Schlüter BO105, which is about 40 years old. I will use the radio I got with the Kyosho on that. In the meantime, I shall take whatever I can get for the Kyosho and spend it on summat else. I can get an E-Sky belt CP for not a lot of money, and I'm tempted by a WalkerA DF37.
Can any experts give recommendations? The E-Sky is almost complete save for the batteries, the WalkerA is a bit more.

I'd like the opinions (whichever way they may be) before shelling out even more dosh on something that is a right old nail!!

              Cheers
