    Hello everyone,

    I have owned my honey bee FPV2 for a few months now and wanted to upgrade a few pieces on it to provide more response. I upgraded the whole main rotor to metal which is awesome, I then (a few days ago) also upgraded my stock tail motor/rotor to the Xtreme Direct Drive tail motor / CP3 tail rotor as it was recommended due to providing quicker response.....however since upgrading it, it cant get off the floor without furiously spinning. The heli spins anti clock wise which I guess means the tail rotor is not counteracting the main rotors

    I have read lots about the way the direct drive should be installed, which I have followed. For instance I have soldered the black wire to the positive terminal not the red etc etc.

    The tail rotor is spinning anti clockwise up into the main rotor, which from other forums is right. I have reset the 4 in 1 controller with the trims in the middle and cant stop it spinning even if the tail trims are far right to counteract the spin. Even if I reset the speed controller with trim far left so there is more play to counteract it it still doesnt work

    I am trying so hard to fix it but just cant seem to stop it spinning and its really frustrating me, anyone got any ideas or step by step instructions on how to fix this??

    Appreciate any comments - im a newbie so if you need photos or more info let me know

    I know very little about the Bee, but from what you are describing, it sounds like the gyro and/or rudder is reversed. How you change that - sorry, I don't know! But those are the areas I'd be looking at. And make sure the tail blades are on the right way round....

      Sounds to me that the tail blade may be the wrong way around, the motor on my bee actually spins clockwise which I know isn't right but I haven't changed it as it works fine as it is.
      The other thing is that the tail motor may be a bad one as they aren't known for their reliability.

        Does the tail rotor spin all the time or just when you increase the throttle? You should be able to test it by moving the tail. The gyro should push the tail back the way it came, if it doesn't you can rewire the tail motor, or change the gyro direction setting. If it doesn't have one turn it through 180 degrees, so it sees the opposite yaw.

            Hi All,

            Thanks for your quick responses. In reponse to all your points:

            - To be honest I dont think its a faulty DD tail motor as I bought 2 (1 for spare) and it spins using either.
            - The blades could be on the wrong way around I suppose but it came pre built with the metal fixing to attach direct to the motor so I dont think this is the case, however so you can check for yourselves I have attached some photos of the tail upgrade for you to see

            - By reversing the gyro do you mean reverse the switch on my transmitter for the rudder (RUD on my controller)? Wont that change the way the controls work though, i.e. moving rudder stick right would move it left instead of the usual way?

              Blades are on the wrong way round mate, that is the same way as mine and my tail spins clockwise so your blades need to be the opposite way to mine.

                Hi Animal47...thanks for the reply - I thought the pics would help. If you think they are on the wrong way I will flip the tail rotor around and see what difference is makes. I will try swapping it around when I get home after work tonight and come back to you with how it went

                  Nice looking bee there mate it looks as if it has had a fair chunk of money spent on it, mine is well beaten up now.

                    Ah cheers Animal47, yeah it has had quite a bit spent on it but I'm a bit materialistic like that The complete main rotor upgrade cost in between 60 and 70 as i upgraded it all to metal. I was fed up of replacing plastic swashplates etc so bought this upgrade....nothing has even dented since...great purchase! I (yesterday) also added the Superskids battery tray mount which is great because now it sticks out from the front of the frame but doesnt move when the heli is banged...another great purchase. The yes as you can see I made the whole rear end carbon fibre as well as the direct drive tail motor upgrade which looks great but I am yet to fly the heli since ha ha! all that as well as replacing 4 in 1 controllers and servos and blades yes it has been an expensive hobby so far all good fun though

                      Turning the tail rotor over is unlikely to make much difference; a left-handed helix is a left-handed helix whatever end you look at it from. More likely you'll have to reverse the direction the tail rotor runs.

                        Hi unwind-protect, Thats what i was thinking. tell ya what ill get home tonight and resolder the wires the other way around, this means the tail rotor will spin clockwise and I will leave tail rotor on the way it is on now, which would be the same setup as Animal47 which is working for him...I'll get back to you all this evening

                          Thanks for all your help guys, switching the wires around so red was on positive and black on negative made the tail rotor spin clockwise and counteract the main blades, I am no longer spinning and the heli is amazing to fly now with the Direct Drive tail upgrade!!!

                            Red for positive and black for negative is pretty standard. Glad your heli is now working.

                              Hi cjcj1949 - Yeah I understand thats standard and thats how I would have expected to solder it up but when reading forums about this upgrade I was informed that on the Honey Bee V2 these wires had to be switched around in order for the tail rotor blade to spin the correct way (anti clockwise up into the main rotor blades) and it was every forum that was saying this. Being a newbie I took the advice from the Forums but obviously that wasnt the case!! Oh well working a treat now! just gotta now learn how to fly it around like a pro, I have the hover and simple cyclic movements sorted, its now time for a field and some power flying ha ha!
