  • My first flight ever

After a number of hours on Phoenix practicing the tail in hover I finally had the courage to give my mCpx a go today. Well not to bad with only a few soft crashes and my trigger finger over the throttle hold. I do have a few noob questions...

    1. Do u need to bind the radio(dx6i) every time u change batteries!

    2. If you crash using throttle hold and your blades are at the wrong starting pitch to take off again, how do u level them out?

You shouldn't have to re bind when you change batteries.

Your blades should move when you move your sticks when throttle hold is on. Make sure your throttle stick is at its lowest setting before you switch throttle hold off though!

The blades do move when hold is on and are level at about mid throttle however if I take throttle to zero and release hold in readiness for the next flight then the blades are at the wrong pitch and the heli wobbles violently until the pitch is correct again... I must be doing something wrong but this doesn't happen in Phoenix

Just a couple of things to check that have caused me wobbles in the past .......Check the main gear is pushed on (so there's no play when you pull/push the head up and down). Make sure your battery is fully charged too. Check your feathering shaft isn't bent or loose(between your blade grips) try to pull your blade grips apart, if theres a lot of movement take your blades off and check the small slot and cross head screws inside the blade grips and make sure they're tight. Check your landing gear hasn't come out of the frame.

might be a dumb question but do you mean pitch or do you mean the blades are not straightened out (ie form one long straight line). When I first started out I learnt to straighten them out by hand before spooling up to stop the heli jumping about as it sorted itself out.

As mentioned in the above posts, throttle should be zero when you release TH which should result in full negative pitch when you spool up, which is what you want otherwise the celling will end up with some new dints in it ;-)

no you dont have to bind every battery just turn your tx off and on again between battery changes

Or always turn tx on first, and leave on while changin batteries

Chances are as a noob I have the terminology wrong but i have double checked and nothing looks loose or bent.
With TH on and you increase the throttle I assume it's the pitch that is changing, if so when I am at zero throttle my blades are not level. At mid throttle they are level but a dare take off TH then. So am I supposed to set throttle to zero and force blades level by hand?

Sounds like your switching in flight mode and then trying to take off.

Stick at bottom, blades not moving, pitch max negative. Heli on floor. Throttle hold off, flight mode (idle up) off.

Move stick up a bit, blades start spinning, Heli doesn't take off. Move stick to mid, blades still spinning, Heli getting light. Move up a bit more, Heli takes off - then switch on flight mode if you are using it - once in the air.

Then switch it off again before you land.

Also check main gear as stated - that gives horrible vibes if it's not properly seated on the main shaft.

If shaft moves up and down when pulling on the head AT ALL then it's wrong. Hold main gear from the bottom, then with a finger on top of the main shaft between the blade grips, push down while slowly rotating the shaft back and forth to fully seat the gear on the shaft. Make sure the flat on the gear is on the flat on the shaft!

Good luck it's a great Heli.

Also if you crash with flight mode on the Heli senses it and cuts throttle itself so sometimes you won't get the motor to go again even with throttle hold off.

To fix, switch of flight mode, switch off t hold, go full low stick and the Heli should "reset" and be ready to go.

hoping to give it another go tonight, but almost 100% sure i was not in flight mode, if it happens again i will get a video

Ok fair enough... When you crash if you level it put and just remove all inputs it should reset.

Make sure you dont have any trims on or anything or that'll affect it too!

Ok just had my second flight and no problem binding after each battery change.

As flying in such a tight space I'm guaranteed to touch the couch or chair at some point. Gear did pop out once which created vibrations at mid throttle but was easy enough to pop back in.
On a couple landings with the use of TH I did have the problem with the pitch of blades at zero throttle. My fix was the keep TH on move throttle to where blades are level then turn off the transmitter move throttle to zero and turn off TH before turning the radio back on. Didn't think there was a need to make a video but let me know your thoughts. Cheers

What are you on about Gecko501...!!!! simply put Throttle hold is just a switch to prevent accidental rotation of the blades. all the controls will still work, it just will not spool the head up

Sorry Chris what I mean is before I crash I hit throttle hold to try prevent any damage.
