Is there nothing at this price point that is a self build?
I don't believe so, no, however, if there was - it would no doubt cause a much larger dent in the bank account and untold heartache 'cos it just won't fly nice...
£200 is a very low budget for the self build type of heli.
The Blade CX2 is an excellent beginner heli, works out of the box (for the most part...) and is cheap to own and run.

    Cheers,

You won't go far wrong with a blade, cracking bit of kit for the money and oodles of flight time on one batt which is what you need when beginning plus theres no tail rotor to worry about
      Velocity 50
      Synergy N5
      Fury 55 FBL
      Trex 700

Light travels faster than sound, this is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak....

why not take the 200 quid and put another 100 to it yourself? save the extra money and buy a trex or similar with the money. you will get a good spec used one easily and be far better than the ones being mentioned already.

i know it would take a little more money but the trex will move on when your ready to do so unlike the others mentioned.....i.e more advnanced flight.

that said if 200 quid is your max then the cx2 would be ideal.

        cheers

Sorry Rich.... it does seem looking back we're not giving you options and there are lots of heli's at this price point....but ALL of them bar the CX2 will disapoint. Get the CX2 and a spare battery and the upgrades I suggested (swashplate, uprated motors, CNC rotor heads upper/lower) plus a couple of packets of lower and upper blades, a new set of skids, and lastly maybe a spare flybar and inner main shaft and that £200 you've spent. What you have given the guy is a great deal of flying time and fun, a chance to tinker about, he'll love the upgrades, he will be doing assembly and stripping down the entire Heli' with those upgrades and he'll do the rest when he crashes. For 200 you simply can't go wrong with a CX2....unlike an awful lot of other heli's that will either disapoint or frighten the person. Nothing kills the hobby faster than waiting 1-2 weeks for spares getting them fitting them and crashing 5 mins later....then waiting another 2 weeks. Get the spares now. You could buy a Honeybee for 200 but then the moment he crashes and he will .... there's no if's, but's or maybe's.... he will crash on day 1 ... then you're looking at a much bigger bill and far larger dissapointment.

don't bother getting the upgrades just yet for the cx2 as they have just released a new version which has a number of them (i'm not quite sure what though), just make sure you get the new version which has an aluminium hub and a 3 in 1 controller with a spektrum 6100e receiver. This makes it a much more sensible upgrade path for later on as well as you can use the receiver in any future model your friend may get. I would certainly get a spare battery though and other spares would of course be sensible. I plan on getting one in the next week, so if you want you can wait and i can tell you what it now comes with.

Stuartn, on a similar but separate note would you ever consider stocking the cx2 as i am about to buy one and i would certainly prefer to buy one here as the support and information i find on this site is second to none. Also i have noticed a lot of newbies like myself are always recommended it so it would possibly seem to make sense.
