  • First scale attempt

    Hi all.
This is going to be my first attempt at doing a number of things.
    1)Building a scale RC helicopter
    2)Building a Nitro helicopter
    3) Not maiden crashing a Trex 700 Nitro first scale build.

I've got a Tarot 450 Pro which was my first build and first cp heli after getting fed up with the fortunes I was spending on my HBFP V2 moneybee.
I also have a Trex 700 nitro fully complete waiting for a receiver and a Trex 700 nitro carcass with motor and head assembly which will be the focus of this build.(Both 700's and Bell 222 fuse I got from my mate Pete who has a small model shop worth of planes and heli's needing new homes)

I've put up a bunch of photo's on photobucket which will document the build progress. http://photobucket.com/Bell222Trex700build

I've started stripping out the the retracts and other messy bits out the fuse and have started to sand down all the places that need repair. The belly of the fuse has quite a large hole in it making the fuse very flimsy and I could use some suggestions/advice on what would be an appropriate action. I don't have any instructions or plans for the fuse so I will probably be relying heavily on community experience.
I've been thinking of fiber glassing a 3" wide strip of 3mm light ply down the belly where it's flat for rigidity and as a base platform for the mechanics. I also want to fashion a few ribs/formers for the side walls of the fuse then glass them into place.
I know in any form of flight weight is the enemy but I'm not the kind of rc pilot that fly's like I'm trying to shake a loose screw out of a dodgy toaster.

    Now for recommendations...
obviously flybarless is the way to go and the 222 "HAS" to have retracts(although I've seen pictures with skids) In a few months time I'm going to have to start looking at servo's etc. so all suggestions are welcome regarding: Flybarless systems and setups, servo's, governors and retracts too not to mention what options I have with that hole in the bottom of fuse.
Working...
