  • So, How Does 2.4Ghz Work?

Remembering back to my early days with fixed wing I remember having to fly different color flags at clubs and check I was not using the same frequency and so. Does 2.4Ghz differ?

Yes, the transmitter has a digitally encrypted code that it uses to identify itself. You heve to 'bind' the receiver to the transmitter, so the receiver 'knows' the code, then it only responds to that coded signal.

The 2.4 system uses a couple of methods to bind. One is a type of frequency hopping, the other is direct sequencing. Freq hopping uses an algorithm that the rx and tx run concurrently, so that they hop to available frequencies at the same time. Direct sequencing scans for two available channels in the 2.4 band and locks those frequencies between the tx and rx. Futaba run freq hopping, Spektrum use direct sequencing. Either way is as reliable as the next and both use a method of binding so that they cannot be interrupted by other tx/rx combinations

            Interesting, thanks murph.
Is this the same for Spektrum DSM2 and DSMX?
I cannot get the low down on what exactly is the difference between them!

Simples, dsmx has a wider range of channels than dsm2 so more models can be flying together without interference.

Spektrum released dsmx because there was apparently issues with people not getting a connection at IRCHA last year. I don't know how much truth there is in that but they released it because dsmx has more channels than dsm2.
