  • T-Rex 450SE slow on Cyclic Response

Just started flying my T-Rex 450SE after much prectice on Phoenix. When in the hover, the cyclic response seems a bit slow compared with the sim.
I installed the 11 tooth pinion gear on the motor, but now I'm wondering if I should have installed the 13 tooth one to get the head speed up. I'm currenly running the 325 Pro blades supplied with the heli. I was expecting to need to set up some expo on the radio, but at the moment, I find that it's not necessary. Should I change for the 13T pinion?

what motor have you got in your SE.

also it will depend on the throw you have setup the radio to give you

13T will reduce your flight times and wind your head speed up alot ! make sure you have everything setup correct mine is pretty lively on the 11T you can always wind your headspeed up on the TX but the 13T is for 3D flying really

Have Align 430L motor. Flybar weights are on and right next to paddles for stability when learning. Have set up +/- 6 deg on the cyclic.

Randall your flying the V2 which has the 430LX which is the motor I now have in my V1 with the 13T pinion on the batteries I was using I was only getting about 2-3 mins before the lipo alarm went off. I changed it to the 11T and got the 18C lipos and im now getting 6-7 mins of good smooth flight.

If the SE is a V1 it may still have the 420LF motor in it which is a much less powerful motor, this was the motor I origionally had in mine andon a 15C battery and 13T pinion I was getting around 7 mins. although it was similar headspeed(as far as I could tell) under any load it slowed considerably making it very rough in any manouvers.
            All the best

with that motor you will need to run the either 12T or 13T to get decent headspeed if you want it to be more twitchy move the flybar weights closer to the shaft. and if you can increase the swash throw. Ive got on mine as much as I can get

The 430L is a reasonable motor better than the LF I'm sure. Its the SEv1 motor. The pinion size depends on the KV, if it is the 3550kv then you prob are best with the 11T for flight times, or maybe a 12T if you want to push the head speed and have good high C rate packs.
The phoenix trex450 is a beast and very unstable in the hover - my trex (not a real trex, made of bits) is very much easier to fly much more stable in the hover, not quite as fast on the cyclics but similar in power with the head speed at 3000rpm.
For the pro woods only go to about 2600 tops, the packet says 2400.

So with the flybar weights yes, your heli will be a lot more stable and slower on the cyclics than the phoenix one.
to make it more like the phoenix, take off the flybar weights, fit a pair of radix315 blades and up the head speed to 3000+.

Hi Rich - I too have just started flying my new Trex - day 3

I built the SE V2 kit which came with the 430XL motor and a choice of 13 or 12 tooth pinions. I fitted the 12 tooth and get at least 6 minutes of good flight on the stock 3S 22C 2100mAh pack supplied with the kit. I am running with +/- 6 degrees on cyclic and I have the weights out by the paddles on the flybar. I have also set 20% exponential rates.

Everything is but I had to tone down the collective response in the swash menu 'coz it was jumping about like a jack-in-the-box.
