  • Hover training in Phoenix

    Hi All

definitely a neewbie and pardon me if this is a really dumb question.

I just got Phoenix after the recommendations on this forum, V good.
Trying out the heli hover training options there are pitch only, roll only and yaw only and everything on.

Am I missing a point here why apart from changing the orientation of the heli would you have yaw only?
Told you it was a dumb question

Not a dumb question. When I started to fly with a buddy box, my instructor started me off with a single element and as I built confidence, he added another element until I was confident with the combination of elements. I will tell you now, it ain't easy first time. Pheonix helps you become familiar with each control so stick with it and when you can hover over a 1 meter box, with elevator, aileron, rudder, pitch and throttle, you are there. Good luck.

    Regards,

    Andy

One thing to look for on the Phoenix is the Heli's with the training legs on them.....much easier to fly.... I skipped the training pattern and flew 'everything' on with the training landing gear on ....... it was a lot more fun and easier to get used to ..... By the way....there's a little co-axial rotor heli there that's very similar to a CX2 that's worth a play.... I think by now we've done it to death but the CX2 should really be your first Heli

it Takes a little while for muscle memory to get the hang of moving your hand in a particular direction to get the required response from the model, so by giving over one control at a time it just makes it a little easier to get used to it.

after a while you do it without really thinking about it the same thing happens as you progress to each orientation.
        All the best
        Tony.

          Thanks for that.
Unfortunately before I discovered this forum I got a honeybee FP, was practicing with FMS but it is as has been said on this forum c**p.
Switching to Phoenix was quite a shock but I can mostly get a hover out of the Trex 450 and the thunder tiger now - I say mostly, needs more practice.
Re. the rudder only I just thought I must be missing some trick.

I think that you may be able to set the heli to slightly more stable (Ade will be able to tell you how)

The scythe and Trex are very unstable on the sim and probably more stable in real life without any changes.

I am sure that ade told me to adjust a setting which made it like a TREX set up for stable flight.

I have found the Jetcopter easy to learn with as it is very stable and then moved on to more tricky stuff as I got better.
