  • Lil' Larry (aka Fastarse) toned down.

Fastarse now has a proper name: Lil' Larry, as in 'happy as'.

Tried flying him indoors today but every time I brought the throttle down Larry would slam into the deck causing me not to get a chance to recover. I'd put some settings in that made it more indoor friendly but it didn't really.

Had a look at the pitch curve settings and figured that negative pitch was a bad thing for what I was trying to do. Changed the settings so they started at 50%. That was much better. If Larry was climbing a little to high for the bathroom I could bring the throttle down a bit to reduce altitude without the pitch going negative and slamming him into the deck.

I'm learning things. I actually managed to hover Larry and land him. On the second go At these settings I started a hover and he suddenly cartwheeled to the ground. I was about to scream when I spotted the flashing blue led. Yep, I'd exhausted the battery - phew, that's ok then. So, progress today

    Beast regards.

Been hovering mine indoors all day too, stripped the bed, placed a book in the middle and have been taking off from the book, hover over it, travel around a bit then land on the book again. Getting the hang of it now, first few take-offs were a little terrifying. This is a scary heli inside.

My normal mode pitch starts at 40 and is 50 and mid stick with 85 being max. Gives a nice curve for taking off and practicing + I have low rates set.

      Scary all right

I have my rates at 50% and 30% expo. Needs big stick movements but it stops an erroneous twitch of the thumb sending it howling off

For those that don't know Larry is an mcp x.

Yes, saves any uncorrectable mistakes of which I'm sure there'd be plenty in my case. Only had one crash so far and it was into myself...

Can't wait for the wind to die down so I can get outside, sadly I think it's here for quite a few days. Joys of living on the Welsh coastline, at least I'll have hovering over my bed nailed haha.

Got winds here as well. Calms down Tuesday to 10mph before picking up again then calming Friday and Saturday.

Trouble is I'm stuck at home. Signed off work for two weeks with a suspected defunct thyroid. God but it makes you feel so depleted. Like a lipo on its last legs. Blood test Monday so they can confirm before starting treatment. I can not wait to start feeling energetic again.

          Best regards.

Oh that sounds rotten, I hope they can get that sorted out soon for you! I've just gotten over pleurisy, was a bit shit being out of breath even walking to and from the kitchen haha.

Wind is supposed to go up today but the field around the back of my house doesn't look too windswept. Might have to go and have a nose!

Thanks, Anti. Ouch! Pleurisy is painful isn't it, inflamed linings and all? Glad to hear you got through it ok.

Still windy in the south can't even use the garden. Back to the bathroom for a fly.

Hoovering over the bed was also the best place I found to learn. I found using a table mat with cork side facing up worked best for a helipad. The cork helps prevent the heli sliding around to much.

Having gotten to grips with basic hoovering I found the corners of the bed then made for ideal landmarks for practising moving and stopping.

I always found that I hated flying with too much expo and stick calming, mainly because I was more likely to find the heli would drift away as you had to put in so much to get a reaction. My advice, drop the expo and increase the sticks as soon as you can. Then again what do I know having hit the light in the living room this morning. Doing circuits in small places is fun ;-)

I use the bathroom scales on the bed but gave up using the bedroom as things are a little tighter in there than the bathroom. Having said that, I managed to bust a blade in there this morning.

Need to find my ideal rate for the bathroom. It's too low at the moment but if I go too high then twitchy thumb can send it flying too easily (flying in not a good way). Looking forward to the wind going away.

Practicing on Phoenix again. Watched a video on banked turns last night. Even with Phoenix running at 50% speed I struggled with them. It sure is a big, big thing learning to fly our rotored friends.

                    Best regards.

Try backing off the expo but leave the rates low, you will get a quicker response around centre stick but not the mad ass wild response of an untamed mcpx

Should I ask how many times you have landed in the toilet!

                          LOL Davey.

Good idea on reducing the expo, I was finding it took a large movement before the correction would start. Of course, that leads to an even larger movement back the other way.

                          Flighty little devils.

                          Best regards.

Yeah inflammation of the lung wall or something. It was ultra painful and not very fun.

Am tootling around on Phoenix too today, I set my battery timer off, fly around, do some circuits and then land infront of me when the timer beeps. Or so is the plan. I'm glad my real MCPX doesn't explode like this virtual one!

Bedroom is one of the smaller rooms I have, but has the least furniture in it so works well for hover practice.
