  • Dazed and confused

After reading as many posts as i could on here , i'm still scratching my head . I used to fly fixed wing many years ago as a kid (used the old fella's kit) and as many do let the hobby drop as other hobbys got in the way (beer , smoking ladys etc )
I'm now looking at having another go . I am in the lucky position where i can fly indoors (in a big barn) or out doors . I was going to start off on the flight sim to get used to the controls again .
So here's the question's . Which heli ? Which transmitter ? I've managed to work out that the pheonix flight sim is the one for me .
Looked on fleabay and found a Futaba super 8 for sale . But not having been anywhere near the hobby in 20+ years , don't have a clue .

Thanks for any advice fella's , and feel free to flame , as with a face like this i'm used to some stick . Cheers

    1) Phoenix Sim a must for beginner and training

    2) Blade CX2 contra heli (The Tx is Phoenix compatible)

    NEXT
    3) Spektrum DX7 (The standard set servos not recommended for heli's but ok for fixed wing) 2.4G and no adaptor required for Phoenix

    4) Knight sport, OS 50Hyper, Futaba 401 gyro+9254, Futaba 3152 servos for cyclic

    All available for Mr Models.co.uk

My advice would be, get the sim and a DX7 or Futaba 2.4 set (no point buying 35mhz equipment), play on that for a while till you feel confident you can hover and fly circuits reasonably well. Then decide what model you want.
Seems to be the standard answer on here to go buy a CX2!
I learnt to fly on Reflex XTR and then bought a T-rex 450 and had little trouble flying it. You don't HAVE to start with a cra**y little contra.
No disrespect to people that own them, they are good fun and a good way to learn if you DON'T have a sim.
If you spend some time on a good sim you can skip that stage and start with a proper heli.

I have a Bell 47 contra machine which I use when the weather is rubbish.

I also have it for nose in practise and orientation.

It has helped with my side on hovering like you would not believe.

        It's also a real Heli.

When pheonix bring out a Linux version I'll probably buy a sim.

Until then I prefer flying the Bell.

        Cheers
