hi. im not new to rc, but am new to heli's. has anyone had any experience with the syma 9118 (the 9053 with 2.4 radio).
i know they are cheap, but want to have a 'play' with something easy to fly to see if the game is for me!

hi bushwakka welcome to the forum.

      ps
how very dare you mention a syma helicopter here!

the lack of replies probably is because no one has much experience with them.
Would this be your first heli?
      have you already bought it?
why the syma is your choice price driven?

That's quite a big one. I'll see if I can help with my limited experience.

If that's a larger version of my first heli (S111G) then you may find it doesn't really give you much feel for heli flying. It's 3.5 channel so I think it just does up/down, turn left/right and forward/back. It's missing slide left and right.

The tail rotor points up and tilts the entire heli forward or back to produce forward and backward flight. I found this to lack power and my S111G actually flew backward faster than it did forward.

I'm sure someone more qualified than me will suggest a good beginner heli. I suspect it would be an mcx2. It, too, is a co-axial but has a proper cyclic head on it, probably your best bet. Good price, too.

        Best regards.

        Vikki.

thanks for your replies. my friend brought a 107g round the other eve to 'tempt' me into gettin a heli, and not knowing what to get i hit good old eblag. the 9053 looked a good package, and youtube vids looked good and showed a few good mods to improve performance.
not bought anything yet, but have started to look at blade heli's now.

the Blade range of helicopters are pretty comprehensive and cover all skill levels. (the scout is basic and I honestly think anyone would out grow that very quickly)

syma isn't really a bad word just not a very common heli around this forum.

this little heli is a very good starter and will give you a lot of fun for the price(its roughly equivalent to the older fly-barred Blade msr)

As it is a J Perkins distributed heli, parts a readily available from all the usual shops, midlands, sussex, kingslynn etc I gather the heli is very stable to fly, looks like it is a fun heli!

please forgive me, i am new!! As the twister has t 'propper' tail rotor, will this make it harder to fly for a newb than the cx2?

no the controls are the same. with the twister moving the left stick sideways controls the tail rotor which turns the heli, with the cx2 it slows one set of main blades which turns the heli.(infact this usually causes the cx2 to either gain or loose height, and so makes a steady hover a bit more challenging if anything)

so could the twister be paired with other transmitters?
