Am I being crazy?

I ordered a cheap HK kit and all the electrics and decided to buy the best once, cancelled the orders and now about to order £1000 trex 550 3gx FBL kit and a spektrum dx8

now im not new to rc as im done it many many years BUT i have never flown helis and decided to go straight to the best I can get.

as long as I strap on some training gear and fly with local flyers and gain experiance gradually, would you still say im going a crackers thing?

or the right thing?

If you can afford it then I would go for it. IMO the HK kit could give you more hassle than its worth.

The great thing about helis is that when you stack it, you buy the spares, bolt it back together and its just like new again

ok your budget is quite a bit above what you normally see beginers spending, but if you can afford it, why not.

as you say get someone who knows what their doign to look it over and test it out before you try and fly it.

You didnt mention a Sim thats another darn good investment if youve not got one.

The HK models from what ive seen either work really well(for what they are)or are a complete pita. Ive known people having had both experiences.

ok thanks, just dont want to be blowing £1000 for nothing, but I know if I did get the HK stuff I would always be looking at align wishing I had a better kit.

Cant go wrong buying a t550,they build and fly really well with or without a flybar

550 is an excellent size heli., flys like a 600 size but a little more convenient, also nowadays 6S arn't a huge price so it makes them more accessible.

I think you *do* want to make sure you can set up this heli to be learner-friendly. Maybe someone better informed than me might want to comment on what the 3GX FBL controller is like in this respect ?

About a month and a half ago I got 4 Turnigy 30/40C 5000mah packs from Hobbyking and even after paying shipping and VAT and import duties they came to about £53.00 each.

I'm in your situation and just bought a 600N, but it was a bargain.... If you go about it in the right manner, ie take lessons/join a club and dont go spooling it up in your local park you'll be fine. At least thats my own advice.... Good luck with it
