  • 1st Heli for my Dad

Now while i think over what i actually want to buy my dad has asked me to go and find out what heli would suit him.

He has never flown anything before and was mucking around with my 3 channel Coaxial and he seems to be ok with it. But ive told him to stay away from the make it is as i made a mistake as spares have been a nitemare and hense im looking for a upgrade and one that spares are easy to get hold off.

He has about £80 at the min

    Any idea's or any advise

    Thanks

Make no mistake, this is an expensive hobby.

For indoors / calm outdoors try an Msr. For more reliable and better flying experience he will need a Raptor 30 / Trex 500 / similar and that will cost a few hundred ££.

        Even a Trex 450 will be £100s.

I suggest a Sim (Phoenix) and see if any particular heli appeals.

Hope I have not put out your sparkler...but best be realistic
No its fine i have said £80 will not get him much. I think he just wants something to have a bit of fun with and see if the bug will stick

If he wants a cheap toy for indoors check out the coaxial Blades- mcx or mcx2, if not look at the msr like David said and can use outdoors sometimes too.

if you can extend your budget to £142 he'll be able to fly most helis from his arm chair.

Deleted my post because I got the wrong end of the stick. Missed the indoor thing.

MCPx has got to be the way. Indoor / Outdoor.....great fun...got to be worth the extra.

I'm going to buy one....when I can get a Tx to suit.
              Happy Landings.

Take a look at Century UK Nano SR at Kings Lynn models. At £50 I have no idea how good it would be but might be worth a look. There's a video on youtube too.

Sussex Model Centre have it as well.

You can get the Xeida 9958 for under £40 It's a fp 4channel flybar heli, thing is fun as hell to fly. You can get a couple of extra batteries and a load of spares for £80. Bit harder to fly than a coax, but can take this outside and have a blast. Spares are easy, stick the MCP lower rotor head on, fits like a glove and costs approx £3 and then blades approx £1.60! You worry less about throwing it around because it's so robust and cheap.

Failing that a Blade Coax seems like the smart choice, it's what got me hooked!

fixed pitch and coax models available from Heliguy Atom RC Helicopters From Heliguy.com they are 39.98 each, and for a beginner on that budget theres no other choice in my opinion in fact even people on a higher budget wouldn't turn there noses at these lil helis they are great i have the fixed pitch version for buzzing round the wifes head she loves it too :P

If he wants a bit of indoor fun, ease of use, and a great fly, start by spending £20 on Amazon and get him a Syma s111g. I just got one as my first help and it's fantastic, flies really nicely, is the perfect size for indoors, and the perfect intro heli in my opinion. It'll also take some stick!

Atom has a good rep. Basically a sort of MSR clone for 50 notes including batts, TX and charger.
