Why not try to start trex 450 if ask me i start and learn on this and the parts so cheap if you crash it but you must be able to follow the instruction manual on the build because you buy them in bits thats how i learn fast understanding the system how it works from the heli to the transmitter irs fun at least if you crash it you can fix it yourself cheers.....ken

MCPx out of those. The Walkera stuff is too fragile on the electrics going by my previous experience of them. The Genius CP is new and not heard that much about it, but the MCPx is great for what it is.

Yep MCPx is a great starter heli. as well as a simulator (Pheonix or Realflight). Also, Buzzflyer are on the pricey side!

I think a mCPx will be to hard to learn with as it's a VERY lively heli.

I'd personally start with 1 of these, get to know the basics of flying then move onto a mCPx once you fancy more of a challenge:

I guess we are all different. I learnt on a Buzzflyer Micro heli. The MCPx is way easier to control than that thing was. Either way get yourself a transmitter and a simulator. Probably the best investments right there.

The mCPx is a great heli - and can take loads of punishment - but it will be a real challenge for someone with no CP experience. Defo needs a better tx than the stock one.
If you are up to the challenge ... why not?

That's really taking the bull by the horns! I'd seriously consider having an experienced pilot by your side at first if it were me.

Congratulations, make sure you stay at least 50 meters from the heli during first spool up and wear bulletproof vest.

To answer original question, whatever you do, I'd not recommend walkera - very weak parts support and properiatry radio technology being two major reasons. The helis itself are decent, but grossly overpriced in the UK.

Buy a simulator, decent radio and mcpx and you are set.

I'd agree with the simulator. First time I tried hovering a 450 size in the sim it was toast crumbs in the first 10 seconds. Real life and that would have been expensive.

Last night, after many sim hours built up during the week, was the first time I managed to sustain a reasonable hover for what would have been a full batteries worth of time. It's far from easy and required constant tiny inputs.

                      Welcome to the club

                      Best regards.

                      Vikki.

                          update:

this was not my thread but i joined in as a new guy looking for a heli.

my goals were slightly different. i wanted an indoor heli 4 ch with a bit of speed. i'd flown loads of 3ch and they were fun but not much more than toys.

i am a hang glider pilot so this for me is a poor wether past time and i have no intention of progressing to the big stuff.

i just baught the nine eagles solo pro from buzzflyer.

i was very pleased with their service. super fast and well packed.

heli came with wall charger 2 batteries and a case inc spare blades tx bateries and a screw driver.

first flight. (low rates) its different from 3 ch more to think about but after 3 tries i can hover it fine occasionally it wanders off but i think ill have it soon.

looks to be a good first heli ill do a post from a newbee perspective when i have flown it a bit.
