  • which beginner heli

hi guys im new to helis ive got a blade cx2 which i can fly pretty well i had messed about with a picco z type heli now im looking to get something abit bigger that i can use outside as well as indoors, thats not super expensive to repair and is electric i've had a go on some flight simulators and probably done about 2 hours in all just looking for a good heli also what is easier to learn with 4 channel or 6 channel

    thanks

Welcome to the forum, mcp x is suitable for in or outdoors which is a 6 channel 4 channel is more of an indoor or outdoor on very calm days
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

      Oh no not again, lol

Blade Msrx or Mcpx is my recommendation, blade Msrx is fixed pitch and the Mcpx is collective pitch, both are good starting helis, the Mcpx is 3D capable

I would say prob the 120SR would be a good start if you don't wanna jump straight into collective pitch. Not great for indoors as little big (unless you got a warehouse or something) but bit better in the wind than smaller version like the MSR. Which is another option, smaller than the 120 but fast and nimble, turns faster than the 120 and is better indoors and fine outdoors in pretty light wind. you can get 120SR ready to fly for £93.99 Or with DX6i Tx for £178.98

Or the new MSR X(RTF) for £106.10 E-Flite Blade MSR X

ok so my question is ive heard a few people say that because the blade helis are quite light they don't have real flying characteristics what about the esky honey bee is that a good heli ?

          thanks

i was looking at something like the msrx so how does that compare to the mcx2 and also due to these being micro helis how to they compare to the bigger helis?

The Mcx2 has got a counter-rotating rotor head design and is very easy to fly and will not really help you progress, where as the Msrx is a fixed pitch single rotor head design and is harder to fly but will teach you a lot more about how to control a heli, the Mcpx is Collective pitch and will teach you everything you need to know but is the hardest out of them all to fly.

These micro heli's are no where near as stable as a large heli but they are safer and if you can fly the Mcpx then you can fly anything, but the decision is yours

Also a good simulator such as Phoenix is a good move for progression in this hobby, HTH

Well you have to start somewhere and this depends on you

                      1) Micro helis, cheap and easy to fly from the sofa
                      a) Coax - really easy i.e. mCX
                      b) Fixed pitch (FP) i.e. mSR easy
                      c) Collective i.e. mCPx its a real heli but small enough to fly indoors. Hard

                      2) 400-450 Helis, cheapish approx £20-30 crash cost. Need a field to fly them if you go FP then easyish to fly but collective is the way to go and is hard to fly

                      3) 600 size getting expensive now with at least £1k needed to start new, crash cost £75 - £130 fly hard

                      4) 700 size, top of the range helis well in excess of £100 per crash and about £1.5k to start (not including peripherals like chargers etc...). Hard to fly.

Plan on at least 10 crashes a year and hope for none Its easy for people to forget but manipulation 6 channels of radio equipment into a smooth and controlled flight takes time and is difficult. We've all done it though so its not impossible. For my money the best route (with hindsight)

                      1) 450 Heli (DX7 radio)
                      2) Pheonix Sim

                      Then Once your flying
                      3) 600 or 700 heli take your pick based on cost.

Dont even fire the heli up until you can hover for 5 mins without crashing in full wind on the sim using a 250, 450, 600 and 700 size heli. Then get a heli flyer to give your heli the once over and put all that practice into flying.

To answer your question there is no difference to the actions required to fly an mCPx or a Trex 700, its just confidence.

                      Good luck

I'd steer clear of the MCPX for now.. I moved on to it from the MSR and a Solo Pro and found it a different world and very hard to get used to initially. From your MCX it would be even more of a shock.. MSRX might be my choice. More interesting than an MSR, better suited to inside than an MCPX and more crash resistant due to the lower weight and slower head speed. However I have read some mixed reviews and am holding out to see what the consensus on the MSRX will turn out to be...

I've been reading some interesting things about the msrx and it having a firmware bug that, during hover and FFF, resets the cyclic to zero when giving left rudder. I've dropped it off my list and am now recontemplating the Century UK Nano SR for indoor training.

                          Best regards.
