  • First Flight of the Blade 450 3d

hi guys, had my first flight of the new heli today, completed all pre flight checks and then went for it. First spin up i got it slide of the slab i was on. second hover it fell of the slab, but luckly i cut the throttle as it tipped so little damage was done, i put a small bend in the flybar which i managed to straighten up and i took some paint off one of the blades. Spun it back up to find no horrible vibration so i just went for it. its gonna take some getting used too, but im well pleased with my efforts so far. just uploading some vids to flickr will post them when there done.

    big smile on my face

You probably know, but in case you don't, you do need to lean the heli to the right for a hover. Perhaps you do it automatically once in the air and you are being over cautious on the slab. It's difficult to take off from a slab as you need some friction to stop it sliding unless you get it just right. The trex 450 and clones have rubber bits on the skids.

If you put anything under the heli to help make sure its heavy or it'll get blown into the blades. Ground effect will make things more difficult as well as being close to a wall.

i was just being to overcauses. as soon as i found the right spool point i was in the air. just a cause of being very nervous about flying a big machine. really need to get used to the controls on it now and get a stable hover, im over compensating at the moment, it flyes very diffrent to a trex 100

my garden is unlevel so was using it to have a level surface for the heli to take of from, gonna look at a none slip mat or something.

Second hover looked good to me. If your in the hovering stage you might want to fit some training gear to begin with till you get the feel. It might save you some damaged parts. you could have easily bent a main shaft / feathering shaft on your incident on the first video. Training gear would have stopped that.

luckly i cut the motor down as it tipped and the grass was soft, i was going to go with training gear but the guy in the model shop said there no point as it would give me false confidence in my take offs and suggested just going for it. it was purly due to lack of confidense in myself and i was being cautious. second i just went for it she was in the air. im now confident on where the sweet spot is on the throttle.
