  • Need advice on next electric heli to move up to

    Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and came across it on a google search.

I've got a Syma 032 3ch heli and i'm having really great fun with it. It's super easy to fly becasue of the auto gyro in it.

I want to take things to the next level and move onto a model that's a little more advanced but will still be fun. Can anyone recommend a model that would be good for me?

This might be a step too far, I would suggest the msrx first - more user friendly indoors, oh and welcome to the moneypot.... I mean forum.

        Would that be this model?

Blade MSR x RTF Radio Controlled Helicopter have the added luxury of being able to fly inside my warehouse so no wind!

a friend of mine has just emailed me today about how he loves the msrx he had for christmas. miles better than the old one is what he has just told me. could well be worth a look if you feel a cp mcpx is a step too far.

          yes, thats the one

          trex 550 (HC3SX)

          trex 600 nitro le (beastx)

          dx8.....

Hello mate, you are starting off exactly the way I did a year ago !

I went from a Syma 032 to a Blade MSR and Phoenix simulator, then onto a Trex 600e, so I can definitely recommend the MSR. The MCPX is also a great little machine, but to begin with I would suggest the MSR first as it is fixed pitch (rather than collective pitch like the MCPX) and is very forgiving, brilliant for flying indoors and learning 4 channel control and orientation. Easier to setup too. After flying one of these your Syma will soon be collecting dust on a shelf, believe me ;-)

Check out this site too, there is some really useful info here and a very good training plan ...... RC Helicopters, The Most Fun And Rewarding Of All RC Hobbies.

start thinnking about a better radio also. i began with a rtf msr but it flew much better and started me on the radio learning curve, when i swapped the radio for a dx6i (new at around £90/100, 2nd hand £45 ish upwards). well worth the investment.

you could buy it bnf and buy the dx6i, but its a real advantage having the 4 port charger that comes with the rtf package. this can keep you in the air almost non stop charging 4 batts at a time.

Definitely go for the Blade mSR X rather than the mCP X at this stage. Coming from a 3 channel IR heli, I think the mCP X would be too difficult. If your budget will cover a DX6i Transmitter then get that and a BNF (bind n fly) version of the mSR X. ThenDX6i is a great early investment that will keep you going on heaps of models for a long time.

While the site mentioned above has some decent info, I'd not follow any of flight training advice presented there - the person is advising to fly circles around the pilot as a part of training, which is just plain stupid, not to mention dangerous (and will give you instant boot from most clubs out there)

Look here for good training plan: http://www.chadrg.com/

Good helicopter to start on is msr(msrx) then move straight to a good quality 450 heli, with a lot of simulator inbetween.

                      Hi everyone,
Just to keep you updated I have ordered the MSRX RTF and once it gets here i'll let you know how i get on.

I havn't made a transmitter purchase just yet. I'm going to see how i get on with the standard one first and just flying the thing in general. If i feel i'm getting somewhere with it ill no doubt be back on here asking questions on that!

                      Thanks again
