  • Need help setting up t-rex 450

    Hi folks,

I'm Mike from York, My t-rex 450 has been set up by myself (newbie). I have a training kit on it but before i even got it off the ground the blades shot off. I have a DX6I along with this model and I'm from York, If anyone would be willing to help set it up right and test fly that would be great. I have transport and don't mind travelling.

    Cheers

ouch i know i cant help so sorry for even posting but am intreagued about the blades shot off? they left the chopper? how?

if you havent allready totaly strip head down and locktight every thing that screws and make sure the 2 tiny bolts that go into feathering shaft are high tensile bolts you dont want a blade lodged in ya

Yes, best to find someone local to help you out in person really.

You need to use threadlock such as Loctite when building helis on all metal to metal bolts. Medium strength (blue normally) is what you require.

Loctite 243 Medium Strenght Threadlocker - Henkel

Normally when blades go flying this is the cause.

Also you can't go far astray if you build very closely to the manual. Do you have a manual for your Trex 450?

There is a guy in york that does lessons and set up, he's charges fair prices and seems to have good feedback but i e-mailed him and he said he's busy until new year. I'm eager to get started though. Got a quote of £100 for 2 hours lessons and set up check for this saturday so i'll probably just go with that and hit the sim until then.

Thanks Laurence, i do have a manual but i mainly used video tutorial to put the t-rex together. I only recently realised loctite is needed. I did put some on the screw that hold the feathering shaft in place after the first time the blades flew off. But I'm now going to use the threadlock that came with the kit and go back over every single metal to metal nut/bolt etc.

This saturday aint bad if you can wait till then. Sounds like a fair price if he goes through the heli and sets it up for you aswell as the lessons. Providing you have done the build ok.... it will be difficult for him to set up a heli that has not been built properly. If he has to take it apart and start from scratch then the price might go up. Once its set up properly you will be ok on your own i would think. A few hours training will do you good too.

Do you have experience flying heli's? Any indoor micro experience?

                Hi Mike.

Looks like you need some help with that, I live just west of Harrogate and subject to you having all the required bits that have probably gone missing and shot in every direction I can certainly have a look at it for you if you fancy a ride over in the xmas holidays.

You can watch us fly and see how they perform first hand if you like.

Very kind of you to offer, just tell me where and when and I'll be there.

Thankfully nothing was lost as the nut and washers that (should) hold in the feathering shaft only dissasembled at one end and they got lodged inbetween the blade and the housing.

                        Cheers!

                        Mike

40 an hour for lessons and 35 setup is his rate, i haggled him to 100 total. And yes I also thought it was a steep price. It was only because i have a helicopter that i can't fly, and am very eager to have a go with it that i was even considering paying so much.
