  • First flight!!

Well I went to an old disused airfield last night and had a play with the Shuttle. Had a couple of teething problems which were
    1) Throttle servo working wrong way round
    2) Collective not moving enough

I reversed the throttle servo in the transmitter after reading about doing servo reversing the night before. That sorted that one out. Tried it again and even at near full throttle there was still no sign of lift. After finally stopping the engine I looked at the collective and saw it was putting hardly any lift on the rotor blades. Adjusted the servo arm position so the blades move and tried again. Presto - the copter started to get light at about half stick movement. Next on my list of jobs was to set the throttle cut switch on the transmitter so that it would kill the engine when pressed. Easy enough to do again following the instruction manual for the JR X2610

Had a couple of goes at trying to hover until my training undercarriage decided it had had enough and fell to bits. I dont think it helped that the place I went was tarmac and quite rough. I will be down the model shop later to buy a better one and will find a grass field somewhere for my next attempt.

Overall Im happy that I managed to sort my little issues out by myself, and even had a short 10 secs or so with it in the air!

    Well done!

Yes grass is better as tarmac can blow nasty little bits of dust and assorted cr@p into the rotors and cause premature wear.

    One step at a time.

    Cheers

Well done chap, a good undercarriage is a life line when you first start ! grass is far better to fly on as on tarmac/gravel you get small bits of grit that get everywhere and wear the gears out etc. Also Welcome to the Board

The training carriage I have at the moment is the A-R3836 : Carbon Training Undercarriage from Midland Helicopters.

The problem I have is the screws seem too big to screw into the carbon, and I dont want to risk cracking it. Also, the poles kept on coming out of the rubber central piece. Having just spoken to my model shop, they say the A-R3836 is one of the best available. Will I crack the carbon rods if I try too much to screw into them?
