  • Is it worth building a helipad?

Hi the ground in the garden is very uneven and the skids keep digging in when I'm just about to lift off into a hover. As there is a little movement on lift off i was thinking about making a 105cm2 helipad out of some old ply board. Good idea or will it make it to easy? I am a beginner still just hoping and short hovering.

    Thanks

even a rug or bit of old carpet pegged to the floor, drive the pegs all the way in, will work.

I would say no. I built one and kept smashing the tail gears on my 450 Pro....that was an evil heli pad though.

I wouldn't be able to fly where I do unless I had a pad.... it's big enough that even the 600 can use it (just!).

Made it out of MDF, a pair of hinges and some miscellaneous bits and bobs from the hardware store, it's great, works a treat!

Thanks for your advice. Landing is the main worry but I've gone and made a meter square one out of some ply I had. Will get a pic up when it's day light again.

                I make these
                IMG_1759.jpg

Aluminium composite, with 10 year vinyl, can put names and logos on them. Any different helipad designs.

900mm x 900mm x 8mm plywood - (hinged down the middle unless you have a really big car) - 7 dark carpet tiles - 2 pale ones - makes a large letter H when stuck down to the board. (Most carpet tiles are 300mm square). Quick, cheap, easy and effective.

Zeeflyboy your is very good, portable too. Im going to steal your colour scheme tho looks like it will stand out!

That carpet video is so gutting, land nicely and then bam!

Kylelnsn, yours look good too might have to invest in one if this one works out ok. I think the low profile will be a bonus

Yeah its made of 3mm aluminium composite, i either lay it in my boot or stand it up in the back! Simples!

It feels strong and we use it indoors, outdoors and everywhere! Just throw it around.

Ive only got blue at the moment but i can coat them any colour just a little more cost involved.
