  • Newbie here!

    Hi all,

I have just bought a Shuttle Plus with JR X2610 radio gear in it. It came with a Tru-Flite simulator which I have been having a play with on my computer and doesnt seem too hard. Is this sim handling similar to that of the real thing or not? For graphics reasons and enhanced functions I am considering purchasing Phoenix RC sim, but it will have to be after next pay day!

I have not yet had the Heli running, thats something to try over the next couple of days. Having never flown before, would I be ok trying to learn by myself the skill of hovering etc or am I better off going to a club? Ideally I would like to learn by myself as my nearest club apparently costs about £90 to join and I simply cant afford that. I would rather spend it on the Phoenix sim! Is this a bad idea?

This looks to be a good site and I will no doubt have plenty more questions in the near future

    Hi Welcome

I would strongly suggest you at least get someone experienced to check your Heli over for you and to test fly it.

These are very dangerous machines and an out of control one is not worth thinking about.

Getting Pheonix is a very good idea but £90 membership seems extremely high to me.

Learning on your own is a long and expensive process.

On the plus side, this hobby is very addictive

    Cheers

but remember winter is coming up so the sim is a good idea. but dont attempt to fly the heli yourself for the first time of you WILL break the heli and hurt yourself / others get some one to set it up for you

If you don't mind the drive, Shrewsbury is just down the road (40 mins drive maybe) - the club I belong to here is Heli's only, and we have several new members just joined recently.

www.newtonheli.com (a tad out of date... my bad!)

          Cheers,

I should add, the membership charge is £35 per year, and I think we have some spaces left still.
You must have your own BMFA insurance (£27 per year) which you get from the BMFA website.

            Cheers,
