  • Instruction wanted / Offer made.

I've spoken to one person on here about lessons.....but it's an option I'll take only if I have no other choice as they are a very very long way away from me.

So I thought I might ask .... Is there anyone on here that would be interested in teaching myself and my son to fly heli's ? I have a reasonably large garden.... a very large field 2 mins walk away and if necessary 500 acres to play on. So no shortage of space.
The heli's to be taught will initially be the HoneyBee Belt CP and the Align TREX 600e. I have a Phoenix Simulator as well.
Lessons would be for 2, 3 or maybe 4 hours at a time.
I'd like someone to be able to take me to CAT A licence ? My son is 11 (nearly 12) and I'd like him to be able to hover and fly basic circuits.

I'm aware the going rates seem to be 25-30 an hour. Cash obviously.
Anyone interested ? I'm in Bishops stortford. Ideally leassons would start in October. Lessons would almost certainly be Sunday's only.

    Anyone interested please PM me.

    Cheers.
    Adrian.

I might be able to help, and I don't charge.

The only thing is, I know very little about the electric side of helis - I mean LiPos and motors etc. I only fly IC, and have no experience of the little diddy helis, but provided you're reasonably happy with that side of it, I can show you how to fly the big one........

    ......Maybe

      Thanks for the kind offer
I have had a couple of replies as well from folks. The first problem I have it appears is the fact it's an electric copter. Apparently I need quiet a few batteries to keep the lessons going....
I may need to join a school or club and pay for lessons as I might need to use an IC heli for lessons.... and fly my own a little later once basics are sorted.
I'm in no rush at present as I'm still building the 600e and can't see me finishing and being ready till October anyway. However thanks to everyone who's replied so far with idea's and comments. It's nice to see I have some options...I was getting a little worried

Get yourself a Raptor or Sceadu 30 with a good size battery pack and you'll be able to fly for hours for very little cost relatively speaking. Learning to fly helis drives your concentration levels to the limit, and is very tiring. By the time you've done a tank of fuel, and have been hanging onto those sticks like billy-o for 15 minutes, you'll be exhausted and need a rest of at least 20 minutes before you have another go.

If it were me training, I'd be much happier with a nitro heli, as that's in my comfort zone. I understand the power plant a lot better.

Indeed - I only use Nitro helis for my training sessions.

Here lies the clue to it being an electric setup I think.
3/4 to one hour to charge - so you need 3 packs and two chargers really.
4 gallons of nitro about £65 for 20% if you want to do the sums.
The actual flight times (per tank, per battery) are similar, its the wait in between that is different!

Travelling to a tutor and flying nitro might be the best way to get going as with two of you to learn the pilot recovery time overlaps (your son gets 20 minutes rest while you have a flight etc).

You could pick up a raptor/skedu type airframe, maybe a used one, and fit the stuff you have for the 600e you just need an extra £10 throttle servo.

True, but that makes it really tough for the instructor!

I have recently done a 2 hr stint with Dave Fischer and the only breaks were for a re-fuel and a brief chat...my brain was seriously fading at the end and I was worn out when I got home.

I had already taught myself a resonably stable hover tail in and could nose in.

I agree that Nitro is probably the easiest way to learn (I plan to fly elec once I have learnt enough)
The older I get, the faster I was!

                  Hmmmmm.......
It does seem that the way to go then is with an Instructor who has a nitro training copter. I assume (Hopefully correctly) that a 600 Nitro and 600 elec have similar flight characteristics as far as a newbie learning basics is concerned ?
So am I looking for maybe 2 hours tution.... for me and my son to share then ? That way the tutor isn't fried and neither are we ?

Oh well... so much for that option.
Phoned PC model solutions and they're in a transition period so unable to teach anyone. (No Heli's).

Did give me the name of someone so I'll try there next.
Of the PM's I got no-one replied to those either ? ! odd!

I dont know where Bishops Stortford is? But could you not get on Motorway and get to some of the people on here who advertise for training such as Ade or the others. Also Flyin Fish (I know I keep on about them) are around Junc 15 of M25???

                              You may be miles away.

I have seen in Model Heli World that there is a company in Corfu or Cyprus that do a 1 week intensive Holiday. Spose you could book a week in UK and stay in B and B but it would melt my brain to do a whole week but I bet you could fly at the end.
