    Morning all,

Anyone know of any heli clubs in or around the Durham area that I could join, I am a complete beginner not sure if all clubs take beginners?

Also is it worth me joining the BMFA.

    Thanks
    Tim

    Morning Tim,

There is a club locator which can be found here: British Model Flying Association - BMFA - Search for affiliated clubs by county but there may be more clubs locally.

It is worth joining the BMFA for insurance although there is only a month left of not so great flying weather left you might want to wait until the 1st next year, but bearing in mind if you have an accident and hit someone/property you will not be covered.

I think RCHA which be providing insurance too next year, but you may have to check what you local club requires, some are BMFA only. Insurance coverage is around about the same.

    Cheers

i am also from durham, looking for a flying club..
just got into helis, was thinking of asking at the Soccarena (i see there is an ancient thread about it already, but it looks like the idea has been forgotten)

i am a heli noob at the moment, and definitely need a big indoor space to practice in. my flat is just too small for a BCX2

The Soccarena was good and bad tbh - because of the way the roof slopped down and the bland colour it played with your vision in trying to work out the distance from the wall to your heli. A traditional sports hall with more contrasting background and vertical walls will be a better option. Another element for me was that you got the distinct feeling from the manager (footie fanboy) that your presence wasn't overly welcome....
          Cheers

              Here you go.

Flying Sites - R/C Aero Portal - FIND YOUR NEAREST CLUB
You can teach a man everything. Apart from experience.

ahh cool.. im up at gilesgate, but have a bike, so could get to the other side of town i suppose.
still need to find a safe heli carrying method for on the bike. could be disasterous lol, but im sure i can come up with some sort of hard case for it...

im limited to about 5kph wind anyway, as my blade CX2 and my flying skills aren't up to much more yet :P

im just off out to test my new minicam setup now.. hoping the wind doesn't snatch my crazy bird
