  • Twister 3D First Hover!

Managed to try a couple of hovers (hops) yesterday & today, and things went quite well really. Thanks for everyone's help... especially Steve. P for the gyro tutorial.
OK then, I think I can sort out aileron and elevator trimming but I'd like some opinions on setting throttle and pitch curves. At present with throttle/coll in roughly centre (and a sort of hover )I'm getting a head speed of about 2000 rpm. (default settings on both throttle and pitch curves). Going to 3/4 stick then revs go to around 2200... haven't tried full power. I have tried a few changes (increase) to the pitch curve at 3/4 stick, but the head speed still remains high. I can see that I need to try and get the head speed reasonably constant... I'd like a few tips please.

    Thanks again

How do you know what the head speed is ? Do you use a strobe light or is there another way ?

      Hi.

Measured head speed with my tacho that I use for F/W. Might be a bit unconventional but I secured the model to my workmate and positioned the throttle in the hover position. Took measurement at tips to avoid fly bar. (kept my head below rotor blades! )
Was in the garden at 0800 this morning for more practice- much better in flat calm condition, however what I did notice was that I had much smoother control towards the end of the flights when the battery was starting to run down. I would guess that the RPM had reduced by 300 or so. (running around 1600-1700).

      Q. should I be looking for a head speed of around 1600 for hovering (rather than 2000) and if so what will be the best method for achieving it? I presume that I should limit the top end setting on the speed controller by lowering the throttle curve by say 20%.....

      Thanks again
