  • Proper Newbie Question

    Hi guys,

I have a proper newbie question, just got a tower pro 2415-9T motor for my HK450 and it has came with no connectors. What sort of connectors should i be using? Also my esc has no connectors either. It is a tower pro H40A. What should i be using here?

    Thanks guys

Hi mate. 3.5mm or 4mm gold bullets, female on the ESC side and male on the motor.
4mm are bit bulky but at least do give a good connection.

What pinion will you be using?
    Trex 600 ESP (Turnigy T600, DS821, DS620, GP750, 120A) sold
    Trex 450 Pro
    (MD933 DS520, BeastX, 40A HW, 450MX)
    450SEV2
    mCPX
    Recycloquad (tm)
Flying Legends Spitfire (rest in pieces)
    Edge 540 Foamy
    AXN Floater Jet
    MDC F-14 Tomcat
    Depron BAE Hawk

    DX6i, gt power a606, imax b6, A-6-10

      Hi there,

      I got a 11 and a 13 pinion. What would be better?

11 will give you a lower headspeed, more docile Heli. 13 will give you a higher headspeed, and a more nimble Heli. It may bog the motor on the 13. Try the 11 t first.

          Hi there Lez

To answer your question on pinion, well, that Tower Pro motor is slightly strange in that it spins quite slow for a 450 class. What I mean by that is it has a low Kv value (RPM per Volt applied) of 2700. Most 450 class motors are around 3500 to 4500 Kv. I've not got a headspeed calculator to hand, but I would imagine you would at least need the 13T pinion for any sort of decent headspeed, which by the way on your machine, and for someone starting out, would be in the value of 2600- 3000 rpm.

Anyone care to plug in the numbers- gotta go bath my 9 week old!

I went here RC Helicopter Headspeed Calculator | ReadyHeli.com

guessing at 85% efficency it returned 2539 as the average headspeed on 13T and 2149 for the 11T

So are we saying that my towerpro 2415-09T (2700kv) on a 13T is way too slow?

Hang on there matey, didn't say that, just needed to get the approx headspeed calculated for that motor and a 13T pinion.

Anyhoo, plugged the numbers into Readyheli's headspeed calculator:-

                http://www.readyheli.com/headspeed-calculator.html

Assuming your heli has the standard Align style 150T main gear, you are running a 3S lipo and guessing a motor efficiency of 85% and running at 100% throttle, you should get a max headspeed with a fully charged batt of 2750rpm.

TBH that sounds pretty good for the basic stuff. Give the 13T a whirl and see what you think.

Does the HK come with carbon or fibreglass blades?

It comes with fiberglass blades. Just had another problem.just tried to mount 2 servos, tower pro sg90. I can only seem to mount them on the outside of the frame. Is this ok? Whrn I say on the outside I mean the mount of thr servo is on the outside of the frame, and not the servo.body. Eill this work?

Try 'Mikeys RC' videos on youtube he has to mount his servos from the inside because they're too big. Cheapest Trex 450 clone helicopter build / setup #4 - YouTube - Link to video
