  • Trex 450SE has ARRIVED

    Woooooohooooo !

    After a frustrating morning waiting for the postie . . . . .

    Waiting for Postie.jpg

my Trex 450 SE V2 kit has arrived. Build has started - what fun - only worry is that the little bottles of loctite seem to be pretty well empty so it will be off to my LHS to buy some more (and a pair of ball link pliers while I'm at it).

Not going to rush this and, anyway, I'm waiting for 3x Hitec HS65MG servos to arrive. As for the rest.

    Radio - Spektrum DX7 with AR6200 RX
    Gyro - Futaba GY401
Tail - Robbe FS 61 BB Speed Digital (needs a voltage dropper - also on order)

I'll use the Align pack and woodies while I'm learning.

This forum, Trex Tuning and the helifreak forum have been sooooo useful - thanks guys - but I have one teensie Noob question about servo mounting. Do you use the rubber anti-vibration grommets or mount them hard on the frames? I always ignored the grommets when building my gliders

Don't use the bottle of green stuff, unless you want to PERMANENTLY assemble your heli never to come apart again (except if you run it over with a truck).

Well the build is progressing (see pics)

        013 The build continues.jpg

        014 Super engineering.jpg

All the basic mechanicals have been built with all screws going into metal secured with threadlock (NOT the green stuff!)

Collets fitted to the flybar to calm things down when it flies.

I bought one of those electronic digital calipers from Maplin to measure up the link lengths. A steal at £9.99 (20 quid off at the moment)

I've "soddered" connectors to the motor, ESC and battery (bought Deans connectors for the battery) and will probably mount the motor and ESC today. Then there won't be much more to do until my HS65MG's turn up.

I have another question though - The tail control guides (the two round plastic thingies that slip over the boom and through which the tail linkage is threaded) are very loose on the boom. Should I secure them with a drop of CA? To the boom I mean, NOT to the linkage

I just secured mine with a couple of small plastic ties, in case I ever need to replace the boom, god forbid.

            Any chance of a picture?

I take your point about the boom (shudder)

Perhaps another alternative would be to slip a tiny bit of cut elastic band under the top of the guide (there is a small gap there). I imagine that, if not secured, the guides will wander on the boom and, sods law being what it is, end up at opposite ends (i.e. useless)

I have used aerospace grade "green" loctite on all my models the blue loctite stuff is hard to get hold of unless you web order it, i use works stuff all the time in the hanger.

You guys must be graunching the bolts or using the green stuff like sheep dip, the bolts break off fine and only when you want them to. The only problem i found is that the bolt takes some cleaning with a wire brush before you can use it again.

                Hi Snarf,

                Pictures in my gallery. http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/galler...user=1095&sl=e

Use a tywrap to hold the tail rod positioners in position, push in and then snip off the ends.

Remember to have a file on hand when you get the servos, because the hitec hs65mg's don't quite fit.

And there are quite a few useful videos from a guy named Finless here :

                  Who spotted the deliberate mistake!

I hope you're gonna twist those paddles 180deg before you're done

I had to make it look like my old trex xl, so the missus wouldn't notice a new heli in the house . The old xl left the house in parts to help pay for it .

If you do CA the rod guides on and need to get them off again HOT water is your friend.
Pour boiling water on them for a couple of sec's and twist them free.
                          Dunky's tip for the day!
(Everybody already knew this but it's news to me. lol.)
